So I'm trying to figure out our numbers now for 2018-19.

FR-Peterson (6-8), Millora-Brown (6-10), Murphy, Moore and Mullins (all guards but with good size)
SO-Hunter (hopefully), Parrish
JR- Adams, Harrison, Martin
SR-Cashaw, Williams (and maybe Jones?)

If that's right and Jones gets an extra year, we're out of scholarships for now. If not, I'd like to see them bring in a transfer who has to sit out a year unless we can get another graduate transfer I guess. That's quite a bit more talent than we had this year.

Certain majors, I agree. But not all of them by any means. There are plenty of really smart kids at Rice who struggle mightily. I'd argue that almost every single athlete at Rice, GPA from 2.00-4.00, would get a 3.00+ at every other CUSA school (maybe a slight exaggeration).

I understand your point but I'm not sure why it's relevant to a discussion about GPA comparisons across D1 basketball. You're also conveniently forgetting that Rice students work harder than students at most other schools. According to an article by Business Insider (using Niche data, which I know has flaws), Rice students are the 3rd hardest working students in the country (which I can attest to considering I see it every day). Duke is 32, Penn is 29, Dartmouth 31, Wash U is 12.

I'm not saying there aren't majors that are extremely friendly to students. But as somebody who's in school right now, and who has seen both intro and 400 level classes, I can assure you that professors don't just hand out As at will.

Not to belabor the point and further hijack this thread, but have you ever attended one of those other "easy" schools?

Nope and that's a fair enough point. Granted my POV is biased and I'm probably an "elitist" considering the opportunities I've been afforded, but I believe Rice athletes would be academically successful at other CUSA institutions. And I should note that my point isn't to belittle those other schools.

From the looks of this YouTube video, this guy is a legit scorer, and from all parts of the court. 6'8", but he shoots the 3, and shoots the sky hook from 10 feet and in. Whether he can play defense or rebound is an open question, but no question he will help our offense. The additions of Williams and Parish provides a glimmer of hope for next year's squad. Hopefully, Ninja stays.

Declaring for the NBA draft at this point doesn't mean he has lost his eligibility. It means he gets to test the waters one time during his college eligibility. All it takes is one team to fall in love, which is what most of these players are hoping for. He (and everyone else) has until 10 days after the end of the NBA draft combine to decide to keep his name in or return to school (assuming he hasn't signed with an agent).

Quentin Millora-Brown played in the Capital Classic a week or so ago, which pits local DMV kids against some of the top national recruits. He played 13 minutes, scored 4 points, grabbed 5 boards. From the extended highlights I saw, he looks a bit more mobile but still pretty slow and might need some conditioning work. Showed one post move which was a nice lefty hook. Depending on how he responds to summer workouts and preseason I could easily see him starting (not that we have many other options).

Trey Murphy will be playing in a local all-star game with a bunch of other 2018 kids (Providence, Virginia Tech, Tulane, Charlotte among those represented).
