So, yup. Same occupy type morons. Hope they do stay, or return, whichever. Careful what you wish for snowflakes.

Amazing.

Yeah, that's what prompted the antifa movement.

Yeah, that's what prompted the antifa movement.

So then you think language can cause action?

Yeah, that's what prompted the antifa movement.

So then you think language can cause action?

It was sarcasm.

But this could be an interesting topic to discuss.

Language is a word with many different meanings. What do you mean by language in this context?

I assume we're talking about the content of the message.

Do I think the message a person sends actually causes action? No. Not in and of itself, that is, sound waves received and interpret ted by the receiver.

There are ONLY two things in life that any individual is really responsible for:
1. Their actions
2. Their reactions to the actions of others

Only I am responsible for what I do. You can't be held accountable for my actions nor can I be held accountable for yours.

Though you are responsible for your actions I am responsible for how I react to your actions.

I could don a mask to hide my identity and band together with others and start destroying private and public property. I could even blame it on you. I could say your actions MADE me do it.

I guess if I was a strict materialist along the lines of Dawkins then I could argue that actions and reactions are nothing but random reflexes for which none of us have control. But that's just silly.

No. When I engage in behavior, I'm solely responsible for what I do. It doesn't matter what you say -- either to me directly or to the public.

Does language cause actions? It's used as an excuse, but in and of itself? No.

So the event went off with few problems.

Here's something Shapiro posted this morning:

5 Things I Learned At Berkeley Last Night

Quote:When the police are allowed to do their jobs, Antifa is powerless.

We’ve watched Antifa fight free speech in cities ranging from Portland to Seattle to Sacramento to Dallas to Berkeley. We’ve watched them get violent. But the biggest problem, by far, has been the unwillingness of local authorities to allow the police to do what they need to do. Last night, hundreds of police were brought in to protect our event, at a cost of $600,000. That’s because of Black Bloc and Antifa. But neither held sway, because the police quickly arrested anyone with a weapon or a mask, and prevented violence in the crowd outside. Good. Law and order is a precondition to civil society. It’s just sad so much law enforcement was necessary for a college speech.

Main Point: Law and order is a precondition to civil society.

This. We are a nation of laws. We follow the rule of law.

I don't like certain laws, but that in and of itself does not grant me immunity from the law.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I mean that simple title should definitely cause a riot . Such is the mindset of the left these days.

Quote:The University of California, Berkeley is offering enhanced security and counseling services to students for former Breitbart editor Ben Shapiro's speech on campus next week.

Shapiro, a conservative political commentator who has spoken at UC Berkeley without incident before, responded on Twitter to the university offering counselors for those who could be potentially impacted by his appearance or speech.

He also described the move as "total insanity."

"If there ever needed to be confirmation that Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro’s characterization of Leftist students at American universities as 'snowflakes' hits the bulls-eye, the campus-wide announcement issued by Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Paul Alivisatos of the University of California, Berkeley, regarding Shapiro’s September 14 speech at the university offered just that," the Daily Wire article said.

Quote:Berkeley braces for right-wing talk show host Ben Shapiro's visit

Girding itself for a visit from another polarizing political figure and the possibility of more violent protests, UC Berkeley is tightening campus security.

In a message sent earlier this week, Provost Paul Alivisatos said the university was taking precautions in advance of the Sept. 14 visit by conservative political commentator and former Breitbart editor Ben Shapiro. There will be a “closed perimeter” around the building where Shapiro is scheduled to speak, and an “increased and highly visible police presence.”

They don't go to the speech? Stay home and watch Sherlock reruns, again?
