Until you realize that since UT's last appearance in the football MAC title game (2004), BG has been 3X (2013-15) and won 2X, has made the whole UTvs BG rivalry less important to me. I would take a long losing streak to BG if MAC championships were secured during same period.

You know BG only won those games because they play in the vastly weaker side right? In 2013 we finished 7-5 and beat the MAC Champions who were our rivals, on their field... Thats awesome! Even at their best they arent better than us!

The rivalry has lost flare because BG isnt competitive anymore... Not because we havent been winning championships.

Since 2010 Toledo is 18-3 against the division Bowling Green plays in. We would be the East rep just about every year with that competition over there!

Taking a losing streak vs. your rival in exchange for winning your championship is called being Bowling Green.

For us, we have the opportunity of being the best AND beating our rival.

Embrace 8 in a row! We just tied up the all time record... Next year we can take control of the all time series AND win the MAC...
+1. Go Rockets. BG would give up those championships to kick our butt. They only got there because they play in the MAC Least. That being said, Clawson had a heck of a game plan in 2013 against a stout Husky squad.

Not true. I know huge BG fans and supporters personally. The fact that they can't beat Toledo keeps them up at night. Beat Toledo is the first and foremost goal of any coach they hire, including Jinx.

We do win the games thanks to BG lately. 8 of em in 8 yearsCOGS

National recognition does not come from championships AT ALL. It comes from bowl games and knocking off P5 teams.... Or even a famous player or 2 who made it in the NFL.

As long as I have to see orange and brown in my grocery store, then I will take that win over any title game. We know we have been better than the East reps so we should not be butt hurt we arent in the title game based on a technicality. Like you said, the schedule sets up for us to Fail.

2015 hurt a lot.... But other than that we havent represented our division because our loss was coming IN our division. We cant complain about championships when we have been unlucky with an incredible run of QB's at NIU followed by WMU and ROW THE BOAT, which will never happen again.

If the league picked the 2 best teams regardless of division.

2010
NIU 8-0
Toledo 7-1/ Miami 7-1

2011
NIU 7-1
Toledo 7-1

2012
NIU 8-0
Kent State 8-0

2013
NIU 8-0
BSU 7-1

2014
NIU 7-1
Toledo 7-1

2015
BGSU 7-1
Toledo 6-2

2016
WMU 8-0
Ohio 6-2

Where does BG have room to talk $h!t again???

My point, and only point, is that your season(s) are judged on championship, and I do not care for any excuses about the teams, schedule, QBs, UT has played since 2004. My bottom line is regardless of whether we beat BG including a streak of wins, the aim of the game-and certainly UT history, tradition, and annual expectations for many years including since 2004, means UT football is about winning the MAC-everything else including beating BG or going to a bowl, should be secondary to that. More so given that we have a 13 yr championship drought.

Because they had an easy route every time! You can say its an excuse but its a fact! They had to do less to achieve their goals... I firmly believe our staff would have more than 3 appearances had we flipped divisions.

Their Novembers consist of Buffalo and Miami and Akron. Ours consist of whoever is expected to win the conference because ESPN wants Toledo on their network.

Not sure why or if we're making excuses for UT not making the championship? BG BEAT our division champ, something we didn't do. That's what it took to win the championship, they did it, we didn't.

They didn't back into the championship. They won it fair and square. Not sure about others, but I don't blame the winners for winning.

After 13 years, I have to believe the fan base and the team would gladly prefer a MACC to a win over the "rival" if that were somehow a choice.

What it took to win the championship? It took getting to the championship to win the championship. Something that is WAYYY easier for someone in the east to do.

They had to beat our sides champ which we couldnt do? Well our sides champ couldnt beat BG and we could...so how about that???

I bet if you polled the team and said what would you take... 7-1 and MACC but loss to BG or 7-1 with win over BG and no MACC appearance... Theyd choose the ladder.

Candle said before the game.... It means more beating BG. Until you stop seeing business' with BG and TOLEDO degrees hanging on the wall side by side, or brown and orange at your favorite bar? The battle will ALWAYS mean more than the average game.

I was at that BG womens bball game when they did the BG football MACC ring ceremony. They all flashed their rings to me..some on their middle fingers. Nothing hurt them more than me laughing and letting them know they were still our ***** and the streak was 4 in a row. That class had never beaten Toledo... And that warms my heart03-cloud9

HUGE difference beating a team when a championship is on the line. This is an easy game to play, just how valuable is a win against BG?

Prefer it to championship? Check

Prefer it to winning record?

4-8?
3-9?

Maybe a few fans prefer a win over the rival to a championship but for most, including players and coaches, I'd be betting a loss would be quickly salved by a championship.

Losing for an entire career? Yeah, that would suck. Some of those BG players with two, MIGHT exchange one MACC for at least one win against UT.

I do thank god every day for a lot of things..including being a BIG fan of a non top 5 team that is one of the best in our country.
Also for having the time and energy to be able to attend most of our games.
Also not laying into our old rival that is attempting to reinvigorate their program.
The BG game showed alot of warts we need to improve on against a much better WMU team this coming Black Friday.
Are we up to THAT.
I hope so.05-mafia

They're picking on the Rocket band over on AZZ. It's come to that for the once mediocre Falcon program that has since fallen on hard times. Ranger Rocket rode in on his raging stallion and set them straight.

And just like that, both those teams' seasons are finished. In the blink of an eye, always. Thankfully Toledo has the potential to play two more games after this Friday.

The best quote from the BG loss article in the Blade.

[The BG] "offense found itself in a fourth-and-1 position from its own 41. And a convocation of Eagles met Cleveland in the backfield for a loss of three years with 4:47 left to play."

Ha! - hit him so hard they lost three years. I'm framing that one. My guess it was supposed to be yards, but years sounds better.

He’s a Bowling Green senior. That’s a loss of four years plus the time he needs to make up for that poor decision.

speaking of which, we haven't seen ole' RedWingTom out on this board in about 5 years. Must not be able to post knowing they have now lost 8 straight. He'll be out claiming a dynasty if and when they ever beat us again.
