I'm a big government spending Democrat that thinks the Constitution of 1901 isn't fit for lining a bird cage, but Riley was not being unreasonable with that stance. MAPS would've increased taxes in the entire county, so it's only right to ask those people who would be affected if they actually wanted it or not.

You are SO CLOSE to getting it, but not quite there

So it has to be a corporate built stadium and the city and state provide the land. Maybe we can get the Pizza Hut and Bmw Stadium and they wont' move it to Atlanta or Nashville or Memphis. Build it once, Maybe Buick wants in.

No, there's no private component that will be large enough to pay for the stadium. Who would do that? There will be a naming rights deal, but that will not pay for the entire thing. It will be paid for by the city, county, and BJCC (as three distinct entities, not as the holy trinity) on land the BJCC already owns, and it'll be operated by the BJCC.

That was the proposal of "RAPS" as their "secret plan" to build an alternative MPF using entirely private money. Of course, it was only a "red herring" that they put out to make the tax funded MPF (MAPS) less attractive. Their efforts were successful. Today we have neither.

As has been pointed out many times, B'ham is not Atlanta, not Nashville, not Memphis, not Charlotte, not New Orleans, not Jacksonville (FL) as well as not being several other major southeastern cities that have gone forward into the 21st century without any Alabama city as competition. UAB knows how this city feels as it looks at those schools we used to play as conference equals but have now moved on.
