Just make impact already!

We've been talking about this thing for over a week now.

I guess it's a good thing because it gives people time to evacuate. That said get it over with already, I can't believe it's gonna take another two full days for this to transpire.

Just imagine if this thing pushes past the front and into the gulf. We'll be talking about this thing another week.

The slowness is probably not the best thing for the damage path.

Its going to absolutely swallow the entire state of Florida in a few days like no other hurricane in recorded history ever has.

At this point we just have to pray the storm unfolds in a manner that lessens the damage toll in some way. As of late Thu night, the projections are for it to strengthen the next few days.

From what I saw, it's supposed to weaken as it hits Cuba. I'd say hopefully it hits Cuba in full but if does that, it may sneak into the Gulf and ravage whatever place it hits, possibly including us after all of that Harvey rain. The best scenario is for it to hit Florida's Big Bend. Tallahassee may get wiped out but that's better than the alternative.

I watched about 20 minutes of coverage late tonight on TWC and its about to enter the warmest waters in the entire region, which they expect to fuel it and keep it as strong as possible until full landfall.

It's moving 4-5 times faster than Harvey. It's just been so destructive for so long that it seems to be taking its time. They are predicting a bit of a slowdown before it hits Florida. It's also so large in size (way larger than Harvey) that Florida may experience hurricane force winds for 24 hours now. I bet you a lot of people in central Florida are still there, or a lot of people from South Florida are in Tampa.

This is the way of engineered hurricanes. 05-stirthepot

Seriously though, I hope the damage and potential loss of life is minimal! It's crazy that there are 3 active hurricanes racing around the Atlantic basin right now.

Harvey didn't have far to go. I've seen tropical waves off Africa before reach Florida in the matter of days.

Maybe my depth perception is off, for lack of a better term, and the land area is just much bigger than I assumed.

Doing some quick rough calculations, Harvey moved at an average speed of 8.8 knots from formation in the Gulf of Campeche until making landfall, Irma has moved at 13.1 knots since formation.

It isn't moving slowly at all, it just formed early and has taken an exceptionally long track.

I'm not sure if the first landfall for Harvey is where you need to do the computations. You might want to do it for the 2nd landfall (or perhaps even 3rd landfall in the Golden Triangle). The flooding in Houston certainly didn't happen until 1-2 days after the Rockport landfall.

I'm praying that wherever Irma lands, it doesn't linger. There aren't any indications that it will do so thankfully.

Maybe the Atlantic is just bigger than I thought. No way, in my mind, should it take two days to get from the Lesser Antilles to The Bahamas and then two more days to reach Florida. Florida is in unrealistic swimming distance from The Bahamas, granted, for a good swimmer.
