RE: Better Poll: Mike Houston
I think NC State should also be included as a potential landing spot for him. It's in the tougher side of the ACC with FSU and Clemson in the division, but it is a job that might be opening up at the end of this season or next season -- about the same time he may be (unfortunately) looking to move on. NC State would be in the heart of his recruitment zone, they are a school looking to make football their premier sport since they will never top UNC/Duke/Wake in basketball, and could be a good fit philosophically for him in regard to the school/team/student body.
The fact that we are having this discussion is regrettable, but we all recognize what an outstanding coach he is and we are fortunate that we will have him for a couple seasons, win a couple championships, and put the program in a better position. If/when he does move on, I wouldn't mind seeing Coach Donnie K get a shot at the top spot. The team has a "next man up" approach this season to replace the seniors that lead the team last year, and could be a good philosophy when it comes to filling his shoes (hopefully quite a few seasons from now.)

I was nodding right along with you until you included Wake as a team that State could never top in basketball. That is just a ridiculous statement! Further, it remains to be seen what the NCAA does to the UNC-CHeats for 20+ years of systemic cheating.

RE: Better Poll: Mike Houston
Ran into an ex-Citadel player last night. They miss Houston but they're happy with his replacement. Totally understood why he left and had no ill will. Was talking about how we hope to keep him another year or two and the poor bastard went on to say "you guys should move to FBS and then he can stay with you."
He mistook my twitching eye and flaring nostrils as shock that we would move up, and went on to build his case (big school, big stadium, etc). I just said "you're right, we should!" and excused myself.

Thats probably the key... lets create the next decade of challenges for him (move up, win, bowls, bigger wins, better conf, etc).... all the money wont matter if we are big fish little pond for life
