Funny that the cop who pulled the gun on Bennett didn't have his body camera on. He probably thought he could get away with anything without it.

My understanding is that they are supposed to turn them on any time they are going to make a stop or question a suspect.

If true, wow...

Snippet of Letter from Las Vegas police to NFL (who chastised police).

Quote: “As our uniformed officers entered the casino, they observed Bennett hiding behind a slot machine. When officers turned toward Bennett, he bolted out of the casino, leaped over a four foot barrier wall, and hid from officers as he crouched close to the wall on the sidewalk.”

The letter continues, “I am sure that your attorney will tell you, our officers had reasonable suspicion, which is the constitutional standard, to detain Bennett until they could determine whether he was involved in the shooting. Our officers, who are both minorities, had the legal right and obligation, to detain Bennett based upon the nature of the call and Bennett’s unusual and suspicious actions. Our officers did not detain Bennett because he was “a black man in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Michael Bennett’s claim that our officers are racist is false and offensive to the men and women of law enforcement. We hope you will take appropriate action against Michael Bennett.”

Shots were fired in the casino somewhere, everyone started to get out and the police were called. Below is what transpired after that...

After clearing the casino, a team of officer's started heading toward Drai's nightclub, and while they were on the way there, they located Bennett.
"As they moved toward the nightclub, an individual later identified as Bennett was seen crouched down behind a gaming machine as the officers approached," McMahill sald. "Once Bennett was in the officer's view, he quickly ran out the south doors, jumped over a wall onto Flamingo Road East of Las Vegas Boulevard into traffic."
According to McMahill, the officers viewed Bennett's actions as suspicious, which is why he was handcuffed.
"Due to Bennett's actions, and the information the officer's had at the time, they believed that Bennett may have been involved in the shooting and they gave chase," McMahill said. "Bennett was placed in handcuffs and detained while officers determined whether or not he was involved in the incident."
In his statement, Bennett said his time in custody felt like an "eternity" due to the brutal way that the officers treated him.
McMahill said the Seahawks defensive end was in custody for 10 minutes.
"He was detained for approximately 10 minutes and released," McMahill said.
McMahill also added that Bennett told the officers that he "understood" why the situation happened after Vegas police explained it to him.
"Mr. Bennett, at the scene, had the incident explained to him by a supervisor and he said that he understood and that he had no problem with what the officers did," McMahill said.

News for everybody....I don't care if you are black, white, red, brown, yellow, or polka-dot and spots if law enforcement is investigating a shots fired call and you act in a suspicious manner like described above and they see you you are more likely than not going to be detained and probably it's going to be at gun point.

That is the specific policy of Vegas? Not your understanding, but their policy? I found a story that said not all Vegas police have body cams. Regardless, in this case, Bennett is starting to look pretty bad.

On this forum at least we've never pretended this is not an issue and we have had many serious adult conversations about it.

I'm glad someone on the other side is at least admitting that this IS an issue.

What exactly is the issue HERE?

The issue is that black people are more likely to be stopped by police.

They are more likely to be arrested by police.

They are more likely to be found guilty.

They are more likely to be incarcerated.

Those are the facts. If you don't believe me, look it up. Countless studies have been made about this.

So if you aren't going to accept the facts then there is no need for a discussion.

However, if you want to discuss why then I'm all ears.
You want facts , look at these facts.
Odds are better to be hit by lightning than killed by a cop.

I didn't demand anything. I'm simply saying we cannot have a discussion if someone isn't going to accept the facts.

For example. We cannot have an honest discussion about the solar system if you don't even acknowledge that it exists.

Letter

Looks like it's got all the makings of yet another hoax "hate crime".

OP is fake news.

If true,it just reaffirms my belief that some people just don't care about the actual facts and only look to further an agenda. That's a shame.
