RE: ODAF Donations
I've got friends that have gotten letters from UNC and VCU urging them to make next year's donations before 1/1 in order to get the deduction.

There’s no downside for the school to ask. They know nothing. If you slide the giving forward, they get your money early. If the deduction stays, they say it was better to be safe than sorry. You better bet they’ll be asking for additional next year regardless if you have early. “C’mon guys ... surely you can find a little more.”

Should be interesting to see how or if they change the price of tickets and the perks related to donating moving forward.

RE: ODAF Donations
There's a pretty solid discussion going on the CUSA board about it. I don't have a brain today so I don't have much time to wrap my mind around it, but I assume this is bad for ODAF and the points system?

The doubling of the standard deduction should make itemizing unlikely for the majority of ODAF members going forward, making it unlikely to impact most donors. But the ones who will continue itemizing are likely the biggest non-corporate donors.

So, they'll have to either bank on those who itemize not caring about the lost deduction or change the way the donation perks/benefits are reached.

RE: ODAF Donations
Why aren’t they fundraising specifically for the stadium now so they can plan to spend the revenue in phase one? An extra $10 million could move our stadium plans from blah to decent.

“I just think people have really bought into our vision, what we’re trying to do with ODU athletics,” she said. “We want to become nationally prominent, and people are excited.”

And what would you cite as the reason for the donation growth?

Excitement over the bowl victory and people wanting to step up and help build the 25,000 seat stadium with a club level, chair backs etc to be the nicest G5 stadium in the country as we were told. People have bought into the vision as laid out, and followed through with their cash. The admin better deliver or there will be a lot of ticked off donors.

RE: ODAF Donations
Just goes to show that this is another case where we the posters of this board are in the minority opinion. Sounds like the majority of the fanbase is excited for the future, while some (most?) of us complain about the leadership and direction athletics are heading. Doesn't mean one is right or wrong, but it appears the funding stream is not drying up yet.
