Easy to say until someone leaves you with no home game and won't fulfill their buyout obligation.

Pay us the $650k we are due and they can be on their way.

If you thought that would cost you other P5 payday games would you say the same thing?

No need to be shortsighted here.
For me personally, I wouldn't be bullied out of my due. But then again I wouldn't try to bully anyone out of their due either.

Whether the university swallows it I don't know.

I will say, that you have to be a real special level of scumbag P5 to try and screw a G5 out of the contract buyout with threats. Most P5 would just pay it and move on.

Bottom line is whether the meaning of the word impossible has been affected by tge hurricane. I assert that it has not.

FWIW, I read the statement by the ArkST athletic director - bad PR move, came across as caring more about football than the hurricane.

Quo, sometimes in this hissy fit generation it is more important to speak the truth than to pander to public perception. There are zero reasons this game could not be played. It's in a safe place. By the time the storm has passed there will be operational air transportation back at least to a destination close enough to bus in, if Coral Gables is even in condition to receive them.

The AD at Arkansas State just lost his money game for his home schedule. I can understand his dismay.

If there was actually something the players at Miami could do to actually help prepare for the storm maybe. But evacuation needs to occur prior to Saturday anyway. And if Irma is the bad girl she looks like, nobody can prepare for a Category 5. It's a roof ripper extraordinaire. In fact with the surge foundations are usually all that's left. So boarding the windows and taping glass is usually a waste of plywood and tape.

I think it is perfectly fair to say that the safety of the Miami players is in question considering they must also return home and the situation on the ground there is in question since the storm in question is actually unprecedented.

Arkansas State should walk away.
The question is...was it IMPOSSIBLE to play the game.

No.

Then $650k is due.

Thats pretty much it. The rest is just histrionics and wiggling.

But your AD came off bad in his statement.

I don't see how there is any bullying.

The relative weight of the financial resources and scale of each program was understood when the contract was signed.

Arkansas State was one of many on the list that could have fulfilled this need for Miami.

It would be silly for Arkansas State to push this and make themselves out to be unreasonable in light of the worst hurricane on record.

I know that if I was a P5 athletic director this would be a black mark against using Arkansas State in the future when there are plenty of people in line to do the job.

This is just the market.

Miami cancelled because the game isn't an easy win.

If the game was at Texas State, it'd be played.

Yep. Avoid it and prep for FSU. Some folks are really naïve.

Sounds like Miami is willing to schedule the game in the future. My guess, Ark St probably does this instead of trying to sue. Then again I assume their AD is more reasonable than message board fans. 03-wink

I am sure Alabama is so offended they will be mailing a buyout check to avoid rubbing elbows with us next year.

Funny how when Florida cancelled a game last year, the SEC didn't have a problem moving heaven and earth to force that game to be played.

Here is what matters.

Played as scheduled. AState leaves me frustrated on Saturday night.
Not played?

It'll be TCU pissing me off instead.

If Miami is (legitimately) willing to reschedule in the future, this should be a closed case then.

That was to for a conference game and they had to cancel non conference games to make it happen. Big difference.

A conference game with big possible implications for who won the SEC divisions, and even then it was a real struggle to get the game in, with lots of acrimony on both sides.

Hopefully, Miami will find a way to come to ArkST in 2019 or 2020.

Miami says they will play at Ark State another year. Problem solved.........

"Though the game will not be replayed this season, James said in probably “a few years out,’’ because of how far in advance UM has its football scheduling done, UM would play at Jonesboro if Arkansas State wanted the game."

I know the logistics are anywhere from impossible to ****ing are you kidding me, but is it even remotely remotely possible that Arkansas State could find another opponent with an open date (say, another game in Irma's path is called off and the non-affected team is out a game)?
