UCF has now realized that when the Governor says "Campus is Closed", that yes, that does include the "On Campus" Football Stadium.

UCF vs Memphis canceled.

RE: Irma schedule moves
Just saw FIU/Indiana game cancelled this weekend.

With all these cancels i wonder if we may see some adjustments with teams with same bye week playing each other extra.

Assuming that Bethune-Cookman @FAU will be cancelled (FAU is still stuck in Madison, WI), that brings the total FBS schools cancelling at least one game to 15 (plus 2 FCS schools). UCF cancelled two games. This is clearly unprecedented, and the NCAA is going to have to be lax when it comes to allowing these schools to mitigate the damage IMO.

But with only one bye week on the schedule, finding workarounds is going to be difficult, and a lot of money is going to be left on the table.

I'm wondering whether the NCAA will try to ensure two bye weeks in the future by pushing up the start date to what is now called Week Zero in years where there isn't a natural second bye week.

While this year is an aberration by historical standards, it remains to be seen whether it will become more "normal" in the future.

The NCAA is already considering going to a 14 week season. They announced it on the Oversight committee back in the summer.

http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com...ar-future/

Quote:Most notably, the committee is set to look into expanding the standard regular season schedule to 14 weeks. This move is being examined as a result of previous changes that eliminated two-a-days for programs across college football and the subsequent need for a host of pre-season waivers allowing teams to start fall camp earlier than normal. According to the association’s release on the matter, administrators would prefer to keep the standard early August start date for camp and move to a 14-week slate that would not result in the need for waivers to start early.

“A variety of different models will be looked at,” said Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby, the oversight committee chair. “We think there are some ways that the beginning of preseason practice can be kept in August and still meet the appropriate safety considerations.”

Teams normally play a 13-week season with one bye weekend but the calendar does provide a few opportunities every once in a while to play a 14-week season when there is an extra Saturday baked into the standard Labor Day through Thanksgiving run. The move to 14-weeks would probably get a big thumbs up from coaches with the inclusion of an extra bye week for most.

They meet in early October. Have a feeling this may help push it through.

Assuming no more cancellations involving 2 FBS schools, here are some makeup opportunities.

Week 5 UT San Antonio vs Arkansas St (site TBD, split gate as both lost home games)

Week 6 Ga Tech @ Indiana

Week 8 FIU @Florida

Week 11 Houston vs UL Monroe (site TBD, split gate as both lost away games)

Florida Atlantic doesn't appear to have a date to make up its home game against Bethune-Cookman unless B-C has an open date in Week 7.

That leaves the AAC's mess, where UConn, UCF, Memphis and UCF lost conference games. They have some options, but they are complicated. One of these games may be lost. Since UCF has lost two home games, the league will probably try to make sure they get at least one of them back.

AState probably won't play week 5 Saturday because we play on Wednesday after that. Playing Thursday or even Friday in a make-up is going to be an attendance clunker for whomever gets the game (both lost home games). Whomever hosts is probably going to have to travel to the other in a future season as an ad hoc home and home.
UTSA and AState are both overloaded in road games in 2019 can't see either agreeing to travel in 2019, UTSA wouldn't add another road game in 2020 either and doubt AState would though they have more wiggle room. 2021 would be the first year both have much flexibility and frankly have my doubts either wants a game this year bad enough to host a Thursday or Friday night game on Sept 28 or 29 and then be obligated to return the game in 2021.

Could that Georgia Southern game on 10/4 be moved to Saturday (assuming ESPN cooperated by keeping it on TV)?

Most anything can happen if ESPN wants it to happen or at least is OK with it.

Glad to see the game is on. Curious, has USF even been able to practice this week? Also, what is the situation in Tampa? Is power back on in most of Tampa? I know NCSU and GT played after I believe Fran and people raised holy cane because the Stadium had all the ICE sent to concessions and many in RDU area where without power and it was hot as hades that weekend. The press had a field day. Hope all that will be able to be avoided for USF and Tampa Bay. 04-cheers

Good for IU. Was worried that cancellation would cost them a bowl game.

As of 12 noon today, 50% of Hillsboro County (Tampa) homes and 75% of Pinellas County homes are without power.

The Bulls say they will be able to get in 3 days practice for the Illinois game.

whole bunch of schedule moves...
USF @ UConn 11/4
ECU @ UConn 9/24(Sunday)
ECU @ Houston 11/4
Cincy @ USF 10/14
Houston @ USF 10/28

USF/UMass game from 10/14 will now be played in 2022 or 2023. In it's place for UMass will be a game with FIU on 12/2, unless FIU somehow makes the CUSA title game.

Memphis/UCF game still left to get rescheduled.
