So you're an athletic supporter?

Ideas: -Bring back the Maniacs, -tell students to get social about the games, -and hype the living hell out of our sports. Deck the halls with stuff

Some people simply don't like sports, or only enjoy watching sports from time to time.

Myself, I enjoy football. I go to games when I can make it. I don't plan my schedule to attend however. A majority of the other sports I have no interest in or dislike so.. I will not attend. I guess you hate me. I'm okay with that.
Ha! I don't hate you for that. You make a good point. So I'll specify: I dislike those who claim to be sports fans, but don't show up to the games. There's also the type of bros who wear Duke,UNC,or VT hats around campus. They "love" college sports but don't support their own school. Should be tarred and feathered by Big Blue.

Until ODU becomes a powerhouse in sports I fully expect to see those hats around campus.
With the ODU / VT series, a few wins could help turn the local fan base away from VT and to ODU. It will take some time though as we are a young program.

I enjoy both programs however.

Maybe we should just stroll around on campus and hand out business cards telling them to come here for free things. By things I mean messages.

Got to admit, I've never heard of any of these. Then again I come from a time where we did punch cards and had to wait 4 days to see if our program even worked.

Think of them as the new AOL or Yahoo messenger but with cooler tools builtin. I don't use them, but my brother and sister-in law are both now entering college, so I've been exposed thanks to them.

Slack is like IRC
Discord is a combo IRC/message board
Yik Yak shut down earlier this year and was mostly anonymous, I think.

Bingo. Not sure why folks are so hesitant to accept that the basketball attendance issues all have to do with the program.

We did beat VT 4 out of 5 times in basketball before Seth got tired of getting beat up by the Monarchs and canceled the series.

RE: How do we get current students involved with this Message Board?
Seems like every year or two, we see this topic come up....

We complain about recruiting big-time players because of the boring play of our MBB system. Sounds an awful lot like our complaints about attracting young Monarch fans, right?

And someone mentioned winning the big games generates fans? Didn't CFB win a lot of games over the past few years and qualified for a Bowl (and won?)

Those new fans certainly weren't getting wet last saturday, that's for sure.

Complaining about not having rabid student, stinky fans like fecesU is a tale as old as time at ODU

I knew a guy my frshman year (he was an older fraternity brother) when I was checking out greek life who wore more FSU gear than anything else. His facebook was and is still covered with pictures of FSU, statuses about their football program, etc. But he went to ODU... I have never sen him post a picture of himself in an ODU shirt, hat, or anything else related to it. And as I said before we were in a time where the basketball program was doing fantastic and we had just gotten a football program. I just don't get it sometimes

I think that guy used to sit behind our group the first couple of season before re-seating. College aged kid used to talk about how FSU did this and that during the whole game. It's still a running joke with our family.

I just don't get it. Growing up I was a huge Hokie fan. My parents didn't have degrees from big universities so I didn't have a legacy school to root for, so of course I gravitated to the biggest and most popular school in the state. While I still enjoy watching VT (even though their fans can be a bit insufferable sometimes), ODU is now and will always be #1, because I attended that university. As a matter of fact, if I wasn't dating a Hokie my interest in VT would probably be very low or nonexistent.

However, whether you wear VT, UVA, Duke, etc gear on campus, nothing is as unforgiveable as the cardinal sin of wearing a VCU shirt on the ODU campus 01-lauramac2

Sadly I have half sister 16 years younger than me who attends VCU 03-banghead 03-banghead 03-banghead I keep telling myself its for the greater good for her aspirations to attend medical school there. But it kills me she wears a VCU hoodie to ODU football games.

Doesn't she know you can go to MCV without getting the stench of that other place on you? Poor kid. Even MCV grads don't like it.

My buddy couldn't convince his daughter to go to ODU and she chose the place in Richmond (I think to spite him). He dropped her off, helped her move in but then reported back to me he saw some people on their campus wearing ODU gear. So at least theres that.
