True. He's too good an athlete to just disappear from the scene in Europe. He has great hands and he' built like a statue. I could see him as an NFL tight end.

RE: Preseason predictions
I remember GMU's Jai Lewis doing the same. He signed with the NY Giants I think, but didn't make the final roster.

Jai Lewis was fat though, think current Shaq but shorter. While Cacock is all muscle with size and more athleticism.

I remember when we faced GMU in Trask in '06. Students in the student section waved cupcakes around while yelling "Hey Jai....Cupcakes!" during shootaround. Good times.

Those were the days. Was Slattery at UD while you were in School?

Jose Juan Barea also did that.

He was having a bad day from the combo of John Goldsberry's relentless defense and a special contingent of student hecklers that year ('06).

RE: Preseason predictions
JG had that ability to get under many skins cause he was so good at defense.

The best GMU meltdown at trask was when they had George Evans. He got so mad one time he slammed the ball center court as hard as he could in front of everyone. The crowd was livid. It would have been an automatic T but the refs were at the scorers table and missed the whole thing. It was like something out of WWE where the whole crowd saw Ric Flair hit him with the brass knucks but the ref missed it

Highly thought of publication has 6th. That would be more of my prediction.

I don't think we dip down that far with the talent remaining on the roster. I could be wrong, but I don't see us going below 5th. However, 2-4 seems more likely.

RE: Preseason predictions
You just don't know until you see them in the new system. I think the longer term seems promising. You have to embrace getting stops period regardless of overwhelming offensive talent. We saw that movie. It was certainly a great movie though and they were probably the best offensive team in CAA history, but we fell just short in the end in the Big Dance. Let's just see. When they can roll quality bigs, I think you'll see this system flourish. And, that may happen. Who know's?

RE: Preseason predictions
Finishing in the top four is a pretty big deal when it comes to being able to realistically win the CAA tournament.

Yep. A team outside of the Top 4 hasn't won a CAA title since 1993 (# 7-seed ECU).

Heck, a team outside of the top THREE hasn't won a title since we did in 2000 as a 4-seed. Since then, a 1 or a 2 was needed to win the title in all but 3 years: 2008 (# 3 George Mason); 2013 (# 3 JMU); and 2015 (# 3 Northeastern). Richmond won it as a 3 in 1998.

To summarize, CAA champs fall into these categories:

* Seed outside of Top 3: 2/25 (8 %)
* 3-Seed: 4/25 (16 %)
* 1 or 2-seed: 19/25 (76 %)

RE: Preseason predictions
Our unknowns outweigh our knowns at this point.

1. What will we look like on the floor minus the press? It was our X factor while Keatts was here, and gave us bursts of scoring that could put a game out of reach or get us back in games quickly. It also allowed our undersized roster to play off speed and endurance to wear down opponents.

2. Will Cacok play the 4 or 5 this year? UNCW gave up size at the 4 in favor of the offensive mismatch last year. If Cacock moves to the 4, we gain size in the post and a more traditional inside/out offense. If he stays at the 5, who plays the four? Elmore or another guard?

3. Do we have enough overall talent to compete at the top of the CAA? We know what Cacock and Talley can do on the floor as starters and in clutch situations. They're good. Fornes has shown he can be good. Marcus Bryan has looked below average, Elmore hasn't played enough to know what he can do, and Richmond has looked average at best. Every other player is an unknown at this point.

4. Coaching? How do the players respond to McGrath if we don't come out of the gate winning? Unlike the past, when our players were used to losing and Keatts had to get them to believe in themselves, McGrath will be dealing with players who've only experienced winning and finishing first in the CAA. How does he handle in game adjustments, substitutions, strategy? All unknown.

5. Assistants. With a very experienced coaching staff(on paper, the best we've ever had), this may be the most encouraging aspect of this upcoming year. It's by far the most compelling reason to believe we can maintain a high level of play. I expect to see a great deal of player improvement, especially with our big men with Wolfe on the bench. Keatts was more involved in using the best players available to win games and spent little time on developing players who weren't in his game plan.

IMO, 6th is too low and 2nd too high. CofC and Towson should be the favorites at this point. I predict UNCW finishes in the 3-5 range. Elon is a sleeper that could surprise everyone.
