RE: Miami *MIGHT* take a pass on playing Saturday
If they are taking an air charter to the game, they should go ahead and play - the airplane won't be staying in Florida if the hurricane comes.
It might be wise, though, for them to prepare to play Florida State on the same road trip.

If Miami were to back out they lose the game guarantee and owe liquidated damages. Totals up just over a million out of the Miami budget.

Meanwhile, Alcorn State @ FIU has been postponed. The Miami Herald says it might be rescheduled for Dec. 2, but a TV station in Mississippi says the schools are looking for a neutral site to play it this weekend. Classes at FIU have been called off as of 11 tonight and the school will be closed starting Thursday.

FAU is traveling to Wisconsin, USF traveling to UConn and UCF hosting Memphis a day early.

That's why Sankey had to resolve the Florida / L.S.U. issue a year ago. After all conferences are scheduling organizations and the NCAA governs the whole structure.
A cancellation for spurious reasons leaves Arkansas State with damages. And this kind of behavior by Florida schools will eventually lead to nobody wanting to schedule them out of conference. After all August to November is usually the peak of Hurricane season and if that becomes an acceptable excuse it will be abused. Moving the location of a game is the proper way to go about it when you have appropriate lead time. Canceling a game in Arkansas because of a South Florida hurricane is absurd.
With what we have already seen in Houston, and with the size and scope of the storm we're looking at with Irma, this is absolutely the craziest possible take on the situation.
If Miami chooses not to play on Saturday – and I'm sure they're going to play – it's not because they are afraid of freaking Arkansas State. That's completely insane.

Their coach doesn't really want to play @ Arkansas State. I'm not sure it has anything to do with "afraid".

Mark it down.
Arkansas 1
Miami 0 Final

You mean Arkansas St 1
Miami 0 Final.
Don't reward Arkansas for this.

Whatever you say there Yinz! They canceled. So either he didn't want to play or it's more gross overreaction from the generation that thinks every danger deserves a good panic. Yes it's a big storm. And yes it will do damage, but the soonest it will hit Miami, if it hits Miami, will be Sunday. And yes those folks would be wise to evacuate Miami at least by Friday, which would have been the latest the Canes would have left for an away game in Arkansas. And if Coral Gables suffered severe damage there would not be classes the following week or weeks. There was no good reason not to play the game. Occam's razor. They didn't want to play. End of story! Read into it whatever you want to. And Yinz, what's "insane" is a public that has been preconditioned to act histrionically in the face of danger. But hey it sells advertisements on the weather channel! Modern day hurricanes are well forecast. People have time to evacuate. We know generally where they will hit and when they will hit. The damage can be catastrophic but it's usually those who don't leave, or unfortunately those who have to stay behind, the emergency personnel, that are in peril, and then because of either their own choices, or because of their job to maintain the systems that must be constantly operated.
