They just don't know which way it will go. Possible paths as of 11 hours ago are straight up the spine of Florida itself.

looking at this map, is about all the study needed.

Rush Limbaugh seems to think it is going to divert East of the coast and head out into the Atlantic. I normally don't tie things like this to Politics or political personalities, but in this case, he lives on that coast, so I imagine he's got a keen eye on it.

I agree. Move the game to Memphis if you got to play it this weekend...

A couple of options - play Saturday at Legion Field or in Atlanta at Georgia State's new stadium. Neither UAB nor GaSt play at home this week. Don't even have spectators, cuz that would be another logistical challenge since a game would have not been scheduled to have the necessary staff, police, and medical teams. Everyone needs to evacuate FL, anyway. Have FedEx send in a jet and fly UCF staff and team to BHM or ATL - divert the referees and game crews there and play the game. The game could still be televised, albeit with a limited camera and production crew.

I agree that it is somewhat idiotic to be flying people into the bulls-eye as the whole state is trying to flee, although I think it CAN be done.

When/if the hurricane goes over the larger islands it will not be able to hold its shape.

There also is a low-pressure trough moving from West to East across the central United States, which could force Irma to make a northeastern turn.
The low pressure is more than five days out, though.

ok

Hurricanes need 1. warm water 2. moisture in the mid-atmosphere. 3. the absence of vertical wind shear*

bingo bingo bingo it's got all three for the next several days. And they don't know when it will make that northward turn.

*winds at different altitudes varying in speed.

I do not think the U of M and UCF Administrations would place fans, players, coaches, etc. in harms way. However, I am suspicious ESPN out of justified habit.

The entire state of FL is in a state of emergency. I'm at Cape Canaveral for the game (about 45min ride to UCF) & vacation. We've been given a mandatory evacuation order NLT noon Thursday. We've attempted to find other accommodations for our RV & everything is closing down Thursday all the way up to Jacksonville. Can't imagine this decision has considered fans. The game should be moved to Memphis for a Friday night game or early Sat considering the Sat night game. So we have no choice but to head home & just watch the game on TV. It will be on TV, right?

Never did get the tickets ordered, so I guess I made another donation too.

The current AccuWeather forecast shows a high of 88 and a low of 76 for Friday with a 51% chance of rain during the day and 25% at night. They are showing the effects of Irma hitting Orlando late Saturday night and early Sunday morning. Seems like all sides came up with the best approach to get a conference game in and finished by 10:00 on Friday night. I'm assuming that our guys will be on a plane by midnight and heading home 24+ hours before Irma arrives. It really kills fan participation, but the game will be fine.

The latest update at 5am showed a shift to the East, that is great news for the state. I'm hoping the 11am one shows even more movement to the East.

Models look better as of now, but anything could happen. No official evacuation order has been made for Miami Dade as of yet.

That's the projected path. Storm still moving WNW. And even with a tick to the east it's showing the eye over FL on Sun AM. Here they are saying projections more than 2 days out have a 33% chance of significant error. On a local note here, there is no fuel available. So if you are coming this way, fill up north of Orlando. Also the governor just suspended all tolls statewide until the storm passes. Evacuation traffic starting to pick-up on I-95, so we're heading out today back to GA. Folks here seem to be taking this seriously. Probably only folks who intend to stay through the storm will be around Friday night. Hard to believe the game wasn't moved to Thursday or Memphis.

I know, I've been through a few of these. If this track holds, it won't be as bad for JAX as Matthew was. I'm also hoping the models keep thinking it goes East.

East and out to sea. Puerto Rico and some of the islands are toast no matter what.

Push it East everybody...the experts have no idea what's going on.

And recent changes in just three models show how fast predictions can change.
On Tuesday, the Canadian model put Irma's track along the western coast of Florida; the European one set the storm on a course straight up the middle of the state; and the GFS aimed it up the east coast. By Wednesday, the European and the GFS models both tracked Irma up the eastern coast of Florida, and the Canadian model forecast it even further east.

EAST
