Can Favre do it again?
By AL JONES
Sun Herald Sports Writer
He's beaten the Vikings twice this season.
It was two weeks ago that Rod Davis stood on the sidelines of the Metrodome doing his best to help his Minnesota Vikings beat the hated Green Bay Packers.
As a reserve middle linebacker, the former Gulfport Admiral and Southern Miss standout was moments away from a possible win, or overtime, in hopes of moving closer to a berth in the playoffs.
But there was one major obstacle standing in the way: Brett Favre, a man famous for pulling the rug out from underneath opponents throughout his 13-year NFL career.
Green Bay celebrated a 34-31 win, giving the Packers their 44th all-time win against the Vikings.
The two teams square off again Saturday in a wild-card playoff game at Lambeau Field.
"Really, it's a blessing having Brett in the NFL," Davis said. "We came from the same school and we both love Southern Miss. In the NFL, all you hear are the guys who played at the bigger school. We may not have as many in the NFL from Southern Miss as Miami, but they don't have a guy like Brett Favre either.
"Watching Brett play gives me a reason to believe."
