RE: Smaug's $0.02
It is illegal just like MSU ringing the cow bells as long as the opposing coach/qb complains about it & if they do it again it's a fine to the university. I think by the time they started it, game was getting out of hand for them so we were just gracious hosts in letting them play.

My sister told me that Tim's video is making the viral rounds & on ESPN. I did see that the big mans pick six 6 was on ESPN last night as well. So we got some positive press out of the return. Not much said about it being first game back though.

My idea was to put the band in the end zone so they are facing everyone. We will all here them then. I sat across from them in the second half, and they sounded good.

Green pants. I didn't even realize they weren't gold until I saw pictures after the game. I like them. Seems like we'll have at least three color options for the tops and bottoms. Could get interesting, especially our holloween green look.

The game. We didn't look as impressive as the beat down of Troy in 2014, but this is the first game. The offense has me worried, especially QB, but it was the first game. We should get better in week two. Also, coach could have kept the playbook simple for two reasons. Future teams won't get to see the rest of our playbook just yet. I could see them holding back a little when you're only playing A&M. Plus they could force the team to get better at the bread and butter plays. Would like to see us go down field more to keep teams from loading the box. As long as the offense doesn't turn into the run, run, draw I'm good. We'll need to see a little improvement in week two to take down Ball State. Clark was right, we will be competitive. Go Blazers.

I thought Erdely played well. He didn't have much time to throw and was hit way too much. He wasn't perfect but the offense was also very vanilla. I expect Erdely and the entire offense to be better next week.

RE: Smaug's $0.02
I have missed these and was looking forward to this one!

A&M and Al State can let their bands play all the time as long as they bring a good crowd. I'm for playing one of those two every year.

Our defense looked great and I think offense improved. The punter got better as the game progressed. Every legion field employee I saw was friendly. Was supper happy the kid from Ohio was there for the coin flip. Great story to go along with Tim's.

Only thing I wasn't happy about was tailgate change up and infants being charged admission. Thanks for nothing Ingram.

Really though we played...and what a glorious feeling it was. I brought six kids with me and I didn't realize that five of them had been at Marshall game. They enjoyed seeing the full circle.

I had no beef with the A&M band. They really didn't start the continuous music until about a minute left in the 3rd.

Just like in 2014 I was impressed by the sound they can put out. Especially the susaphones. Wow!

And, btw, our team is going to have to play through noise in the future.

As far as misty eyed ... it hit me during Blazer walk and especially when the marching band hit the field. I really felt for them also.

" A big, heavy guy rumbling down the field with the ball is one of the most improbably pleasing things to happen in a football game, and we got one."

6'5" and 340 lbs. qualifies as a Fat Guy Touchdown, and we had a classic example. No one was going to stop him from scoring, and no one really looked eager to try.

Exactly. In a way, the A&M band did our guys a favor.

Over 1000 days without Smaug's $0.02 has been misery. As a distant watcher, I loved the stadium feed. Tech was good, announcers friendly, incredibly complimentary of Coach Clark.

Can't wait for the Coastal game. We're coming home for this one and anxious to see all of you and cheer for our Blazers!

We should make a rule for fans to be quiet so the players can hear the snap count. 05-stirthepot

These bands get paid to show up and do what they do. FAMU got paid 50k less because they didn't bring their band to Arkansas. Somebody likes them.

Back to the game. After watching the playback of the game, we need to use a bigger running back in goal line situations. There was a linebacker for A&M who wouldn't let our guys into the end zone. On one play our guy ran to the one and bounced back to the three like he ran into a rubber wall. #52 was a man in the middle.

Withing watching closely, I think they stacked the line & blitzed quite a bit.

I think Clark still went conservative throughout the game even with it close in 1st half.

It looked like the QB had a chance to hit him but slowed just a bit

Momentum = Mass X Velocity

That was a lot of mass generating a lot of momentum. There was no stopping that momentum.

It's college football, not golf. I think all bands should play a LOT more, and they should show them on TV too and just pay the damned royalties. If football can be played with 461 commercial breaks then it can be played with band music during plays.

I also liked seeing the Golden Girls back on the sidelines.

However, it is supposed to be a penalty if the band is playing when the opposing team is at the line of scrimmage. In fact. MTSU's band got penalized just for that Saturday.

Right, and it's in the rules: Persons subject to the rules, including bands, shall not create any noise that prohibits a team from hearing its signals.

Clark was asked about this after the 2014 game, and said that in practice no penalty is called if the opponent doesn't complain. Clark said then that he didn't mind.
