Take on Game 1
Judging our team from the opening game has some interesting take aways.

imo the most important is I just don't think we got a good gauge due to the weather.

I highly doubt we will play in another game this season as wet as the opener. It was just so rainy that it's hard to really get a grasp on our effectiveness on offense and defense

we allowed way too many points at the end yet we were up big going into the 4th Q (What that was about is mind boggling but understood considering the weird flow of the game/weather

The close score gives the coaching staff a great reason to keep our guys really focused in practice this week

UCF beat their patsy like a drum...maybe they come in a little over confident

Riley Ferguson is a proven QB even though his stats stunk in the opener. He will work hard this week to get his numbers back in line.

Some really costly dumb penalties in this game and we can all hope this was a learning lesson going into Game 2

Everyone always says Game 2 is where you really find out how good you can be. 1st game always has some surprises

Might be good to go on a road trip to play a solid team. Focus on the road trip without distractions could work in our favor

Defense MUST get better in stopping big plays

Weather in Orlando should be more favorable to our style of play

I agree with all of this. It would have been easier to guage the team if conditions had been dry.
Good thoughts.

07-coffee3 Our defense will really be tested especially with the injuries we sustained. Hopefully our replacements will step up big time and fill those holes with strong play equal to the starters.

Take on Game 1
Orlando could be just as bad weather with the other hurricane coming.

RE: Take on Game 1
My observations (FWIW):

The dump penalties are completely preventable regardless of the weather.

The run game was solid.

The defense's fade may have been mainly related to injuries, general conditions, and lack of intensity due to big lead.

Riley was really off. I am not sure of the reasons other than weather but dropped passes and poor protection at times did not help.

It is fun watching our kick-off return team. It is a stunning turn of events from just a few years ago.

Kicking issues (if present) could force a change in tactics. For example, more 4th down "go for it" attempts, more punting, and more emphasis on riskier plays to gain yards rather than conservative plays to set up the kicker.

I commend the fans attending the game.

Orlando could be actually worse, depending on how much more Irma strengthens and which track it takes. Has potential to become a cat 4 or even a cat 5 at this point.

It weakened slightly as it crossed the cooler waters of the Atlantic but has started to regain strength as it enters the warmer waters of the Caribbean.

Riley may have been pressing too hard. He could stand to take a little something off the shorter passes.

Before last year the last KO for TD was in that magical game in 96.

They say that Irma might not make landfall anywhere.

While I'm no expert, I did play a little QB. Here's what I think I saw.
Riley has a good arm.
Rileys arm couldn't overcome the gusty wind.
Thus, his passes fell short sometimes, sailed high at least once, and a couple of short passes came in too hot because the wind didn't gust at that second. My impression was that the wind wasn't a constant velocity, which A good qb can adjust for, or coming from a consistent direction (it's the liberty BOWL).
ULM's quarterbacks had better luck, partly because we were playing with such cushion. That might have been "prevent defense" strategy in the 4th quarter.

Major factor. May be trying to hide some of their coverage schemes and saving them for this week. UCF has some LARGE WRs.

Riley didn't forget how to play the position over the summer. He will be fine.

Forecasts continue to show unless Irma turns, it will be coming through at game time.
