Free jewelry on the KO return?
I heard an ad on local radio from one of the jewelry stores. It was one of those gimmicks with free merchandise tied to the game.

I think the deal was: if the Tigers returned the opening kick of either the game or second half back for a TD, then people buying jewelry before the game could come back in for a refund.

If I have that right, some folks getting some free gold chains today. Anyone else hear this?

Geoff Calkins wrote about it in his game column and Robert Irwin Jewelers will be holding a refund party soon.

You had to buy it between August 14th and August 30th. If you did it's free....you will be reimbursed.

Always at the bus stop when my ship comes in. I loaded up on Ashley Furniture in 2008.

RI Jewelers in violation of UofM's Intellectual Property Rights. Should be interesting to see how this turns out...

If the University somehow prevents or delays refunds to those who purchased jewelry --- it won't turn out well for the University PR-wise.

Yea, I doubt anything comes other than a cease & desist.

I'm catching up on Twitter now and see there's a whole thang about the RI promotion.

These promotions have Insurance policies purchased by the vendor to cover the possibility. It's the same as winning a car or $10K for a hole in one. It is funded through an insurance policy based on risk of the event actually happening. I can imagine it cost the jeweler very little considering the high improbability. The University cannot do anything about the payoff. The cease and desist was only about public advertising associated with the University's football team.

When there's a betting line on an 'Memphis' game the bookies have to pay an intellectual property fee for the use of the names? Never heard of such.

RE: Free jewelry on the KO return?
This is of course ripe for fraud. Imagine if a few coaches/players got in on the deal from the UL Monroe side. Either they bought or had someone buy for them some jewelry. Then on that opening kickoff, hmm, a few slips here, a few sluggish steps there from a few players and the kickoff returned they now have some free rolexes, diamond rings, etc.
Of course not suggesting this is what happened at all, just speculating part of the reason the University doesn't want any part of it.

I feel like the C & D letter was unnecessary. The Robert Irwin guy that Calkins interviewed is clearly a Tiger fan. The University should've just had a rep to talk to them about it instead of immediately getting all legal about it. If that didn't work, then send the letter.

The promotion was a success. I never heard of RI Jewelers until after the game.

No different than point shaving schemes that have gone on for years...Probably still do.

If a team is favored by 30 it is simple to keep in in that Margin if you are in a key position on the team.

Those unkempt morons brought stinky farm animals on stage.
I never saw that band but heard reports of defecation during concerts.

I saw them on July 4th back in the day with Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blue Oyster Cult and The Outlaws at the Liberty Bowl. Don't remember any defecating farm animals.

I was there with you. Seen them about 7 times, including this past spring at the Orpheum. Unbelievable show on New Years Eve with Grand Funk at the Coliseum one year. I never saw anything like that either. Maybe he needs to attend the concert himself instead of relying on others accounts.

Unkept morons? Wow. They are in the Rock Hall of Fame and have a ton of Memphis history and he is complaining about something that never happened.
