Nah man, I just enjoy the good conversation, as well as the ridiculousness. I would be happy to join historically horrendous programs like Temple, Tulane, and SMU if the money was right. Alas, it is not, and does not appear that it will be. We all have a price though.

And despite our horrendous past, we've still ended up in a better conference than you with more national relevance over the last couple seasons. Now that our administration has their **** together I guess we'll finally leave programs like yours in the dust. Can't believe it took us this long either.

Ha. Temple could never leave SDSU in the dust. That is just pure comedy. See, this is why I come here. For funny stuff like that.

Houston is a good program. UCF and USF are close, and have great potential. Hell, even SMU could be great if they put it together. But Temple? Come on dude. You are stuck in inner-city Philly, with minimal resources, minimal fanbase, and not a solid recruiting base. The last two seasons have been your peak. Enjoy 6-6 this year and in perpetuity.

Pennsylvania and New Jersey are both solid recruiting states. Minimal resources? We have athletic facilities competitive with the top of our conference and head and shoulders above most of the G4. Temple was paying Matt Rhule probably double what you pay your coach.

Back to back ranked seasons, two division titles and a conference championship. It's a fail troll job to bring up UCF, USF, and SMU who haven't touched that success over the past two years. Must be frustrating when a school that got kicked out of the Big East a little over a decade ago and almost cut their football program is in a better position than you. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, great for Temple. I was at the Army game last year. You guys need a new stadium like we do.

Now retract your silly leave in the dust statement (it is so absurd), and we can give you a nice long slow clap. Now, back to 6-6/5-7 for you.

Take care.

I love beating on USF attendance numbers as much as anyone (mostly because they one of the few programs that has their actual attendance number exposed because of the stadium they play in) but does it seem meaningless at this point?

Nah....bring on those TSA numbers!!!!

Attendance has a strong correlation to program support and AD revenue.

38K for UCF on opening Thursday night isn't bad.

Cincy had 30K and UConn had 24K against FCS opponents.

ESPN reports that Memphis had only 10K....is that accurate? I know it was rainy, but wow.

No, not just rainy. Tropical storm Harvey made its way into Memphis for an all day sh!tty weather day. Hard rain all day long and thru all of the game, winds 30-35mph, gusting up to 45mph, flooding with major streets/roads flooded out, many-many auto accidents with one fatality, 22,000 customers without power going into this morning and still out for some. So no, not just a rainy night. A crowd of 45-50,000 was expected for this game, that is till Harvey made its way into Memphis. Oh, did I mention how sh!tty of a day it was......Also, a shout out to our conference mates in Houston, with daily prayers for you guys and for the entire area for those that lost homes and loved one's.

So, disappointing start to the season for Memphis as far as attendance is concerned then. I really expected attendance to be up for you this year with the quality team you have.

Education is available through many outlets. You guys should try it.

We had more students alone in attendance than USF typically gets total.

Let us know when you're out of the teens in attendance. 03-lmfao

Will probably have over 50k for the Boise game. I assume we'll average about 42k this year.

So are we talking butts in seats or reported? Seems like you've been cooking the books pretty good over there.

"According to the city, SDSU averaged 25,617 fans through the turnstile for its six games last season at Qualcomm Stadium, well short of the 37,289 announced attendance that is generally cited as the team’s average."

"The highest actual average attendance for SDSU football over the past seven seasons was 28,274 in 2011, and the team has drawn crowds of more than 30,000 to exactly one-fourth of the 44 home games it has played in that time."

See how easy attendance smack is...

Here is a picture of the attendance for a game that Acee asserts is less than half-full. 70k seat stadium. You be the judge.

https://twitter.com/AKH_blog

Agreed, less than half

My real point was about how silly these attendance threads really are. It goes like this:

Fan of Team A finds a photo that could be taken at any time during the game (I've even seen some from halftime) "demonstrating" how awful attendance is for Team B - note: bonus points for photos showing the upper deck or visitors section. Fan of Team B comes back with further photographic "evidence" showing how full it really was (and if it wasn't, just shows a photo zoomed to the most crowded part of the stadium) and states the announced attendance number (which is manipulated by every school out there). In addition, fan of Team B provides a reason that more people weren't there, which may include time of day, day of the week, weather, the opponent, the teams record, or any number of other reasons.

The next week Team A plays a home game, fan of Team B finds a photo, and yada, yada, yada, they argue the exact opposite of what they were arguing last week.

Oh I know. It's just fun pushing people's buttons. Especially about attendance since it's simultaneously so easy to manipulate the numbers yet fun to throw it in fan's faces. I mostly talk attendance smack in regards to atmosphere rather than butts in the seats. A nearly empty stadium can be just as loud as a full one with with right fans.

Realize, I was not talking smack. I was just making a statement of fact.

I figured that article would be posted, as obviously I have read it. It is laughed at by all Aztec fans who have been in the stadium. I have spent my entire life at Qualcomm Stadium. Anyone that says there was only 31k at the New Hampshire opener last year, or only 33k at the Cal game would argue that the Sky is not blue. Go-ahead and look at pictures of the game.

The guy that wrote the article, Acee, has been openly campaigning against SDSU, and in support of Soccer City, so his article is written to discredit San Diego State, and in support of us playing in a small soccer stadium. He knows the Soccer initiative is dead without SDSU, so he has been trying to embarrass SDSU. Good thing it didn't work.

Nonetheless, going forward. You be the judge. Look at the crowds in our home opener, against Stanford, and against Boise, and you decide if the books are being cooked.

Fanhood needs to show a photo from a non fireworks show game in which 20,000 people show up after halftime to catch the fireworks show. Cheap tickets + fireworks = biggest crowds of the year, sometimes up to double the other games.

I'll let you know if we can let it die after about 7 pm Saturday. Should be 45k+ for ECU, but who knows with iffy weather,Labor Day weekend, and opening day of dove season.

Opening of fking dove season...?????

JFC the excuse train has a head of steam behind her.

How about no excuses. Real football fans pride themselves on spectating during horrific weather conditions. Your programs are soft.

T

There's not a team of anyone's on this board that would have drawn anymore fans than Memphis did last night under similar weather conditions. It wasn't just a rain event, it was much more. Read my earlier post for explanation on of what was happening in Memphis (not to imply as bad as what happened in Houston which was horrific)........So mr. Wichita State fan, how many fans did your team draw last night?

Oh, and Aztec football tickets will always be cheap as long as we play in a 70k stadium. It is what it is.

Again, this season is going to be fun. Will have three games over 50k.

Yes, I expect us to see about a 15% bump due to the Chargers being gone. Initially, it will be out of curiosity. The key will be keeping them. We have already sold about 5k more season tickets than last year, and the ticket office has said that many mentioned being former Charger ticket holders.

More importantly, we have a very favorable home schedule with seven home games, Boise at Home, Stanford at Home, Sky Show game, and Fresno (always a decent draw), as well as HomeComing (had 41k at the Hawaii Game last year). Thus, it will be a well attended season. If we go 10-2 or 11-1 we keep those fans. 9-3 and maybe it stays the same. 8-4 or worse, and we lose. Its San Diego. It is what it is. When Marshall Faulk was there the place was sold out about three games a year (52k capacity at that time).

Ah...no.

Even with usf hosting both FSU and UCF last season (and their traveling fan bases), usf still only avearged just 29,860 fans per game.

Yes, many past usf games haven't drawn 18,356...including usf's Homecoming Game in 2016, which drew an actual crowd of just 16,585.

In 2016, even with a Hurricane make-up game during a bye week, UCF still averaged 35,802 fans per game last season.
