2020 MBB Recruiting
A long way off, but worth mentioning and filing away for our future potential recruiting discussion. '92 Tribe basketball alum, Scott Smith, has a son who is starting to make waves in recruiting circles. Burke is a 6'11, stretch forward, rising soph at Richmond's Trinity. Would expect his suitors will be all high major by his senior year, and following dad may not be in his cards, but if things somehow aligned that way, we would be looking at a major recruiting get.

Mom played volleyball at W&M too. So, definitely a strong tribe influence at home.

Smith scored 39 points against George Mason one night. A great game!

I remember being up at Villanova in the early/mid-90s for a football game and walking into their basketball arena adjacent to the football stadium. I ran into Heather and said "Hey Heather, what's up? What are you doing here? Why are you wearing Villanova Volleyball stuff?" Turned out it was her twin sister. Had a good chat and laugh about that one.

Jack Molloy, the PSA Cardinal who took an unofficial to WM during Homecoming, is following the Tribe basketball account. 6'5" from Greenwich, CT.

2020 MBB Recruiting
Noticed Burke Smith retweeted several tweets about Marcus' 10 day contract with Cleveland, so, encouraging that he's keeping up with Mom and Dad's alma mater. He got significant minutes this year behind big time recruits at Trinity, and with the revolving door of big time coaches at their games, there is no doubt he is not under the radar for high majors. Still hope that the family legacy will somehow give the Tribe a chance. He's 6'11" 215lbs as a soph, including a proficient 3 pt shot.

I would imagine if he projects to a 4 or 5 star recruit that he is beyond us. If he is 3 star with lots of mid major interest, I would imagine that we would be a clear favorite.

A lot will depend on his continued development this summer, if his skills catch up with his body.

RE: 2020 MBB Recruiting
Another basketball alum has a son in the 2020 class: Carl Parker (6’6” forward class of ‘96) and his son Jadyn Parker (6’7” according to recent tweets) down in Shallotte, NC. Found this about Jadyn in an October 2017 article:

“Jadyn Parker 2020 6’5 SG West Brunswick (NC) / Flight 22 |
Jadyn continues to make strides showing division 1 promise every time out on the floor. At Big Shots Wilmington NC Top 100 he was dominant in game 1 scoring 21, averaged 16 ppg for the camp. Named a 2020 All Star at Big Shots Wilmington NC Top 100. A 6’5 forward with a 6’10 wingspan and good genes as a coach’s/player’s son (dad Carl Parker played at William & Mary), Jadyn is improving, producing and growing at a rapid rate that only leads to a bright future. He has that Brandon Ingram like frame with a skill set to put it on the deck and comfortable shooting 15′ and out. Active on the offensive glass and effective with post moves and face up game. Averaged 12 ppg at Southeast Top 100 Paul Biancardi and definitely a player with length and skill to have on your radar in North Carolina’s 2020 class.”

Wofford, CofC, and Indiana State also reaching out to Wood. Found this paragraph about him in a August 2017 article on TN Prep Hoops:

“Jacobi Wood (Cleveland) 2020
Nice looking player who showed emotion and effort in all phases of the game. He has excellent ball skills, a bit thin but not scared to go hard to the rack or sidle up to his defender and demand his respect. He has good length and is a very capable help defender with a propensity for steals, deflections and changing defensive possessions into offensive scores at a moments notice. He sees the floor well and has begun to embrace his role as leader and coach on the floor. He is unselfish but can put up points if called upon, his shooting touch needs some work and if he improves in this area his stock grows exponentially. He is an emotional sort who will need to watch his theatrics on the court, a lot of this change will come with maturity and his growth as a leader.”

RE: 2020 MBB Recruiting
June 15th is the first day coaches can make direct contact with the 2020 class. Scott Smith has been having a lot of various level program contact regarding Burke. Let's hope both Burke and parents will have a strong interest in him following to W&M, even if higher programs come after him hard.

Not sure how the rules work, since contact can't start until June 15th, but Davidson, GW, VMI, Campbell, Tulane, Rice have jumped in on following Burke Smith this week.

Would love to see successive recruiting classes of Mehkel Harvey, Robbie Beran and Burke Smith.

Yes, please.

Reading your other post about Harvey's age, I'm wondering if he is considering the prep route.

NYCHoopsnball tweets:

“.@RutgersMBB Rutgers, @LaSalleMBB Lasalle, @UConnMBB UConn, @WakeMBB Wake Forest & @WMTribeMBB William & Mary in gym for 15U @PSACardinals game #NYCBasketball”

Would 15U be class of 2020? Austin Shaver follows Jack Molloy of PSA.

Granger's mom tweeted a congratulations to Boatner about the move to W&M. Perhaps he was the point man on Colin's recruitment.
