In 2005 people were saying the same thing- Defending national champ, pre season #1. JMU had no I-A game and a Div 2. Finnished 7-4/5-3.

A 3 loss team isn't good enough to win a championship. We'll have to do better than that.

While I generally agree, someone forgot to tell RU that in 2008. 9-3/6-2 regular season..Finished 13-3..

Along a similar topic, a 7-4 team could make the semis.
-VU did it it 2010 (finished 9-5), losing to eventual national Champ EWU. VU was the defending NC. As I recall Matt Szczur got hurt during the regular season, missed a bunch of games including a couple of their losses, then they got him back for the playoffs. Ironically that season UD made the NC game after going 9-2/6-2 (no I-A game).
-UNH did it in 2013 (finished 10-5), losing to eventual national champ NDSU.

If JMU lost Schor for say half the regular season, and/or a bunch of other key starters, then got them back for the playoffs, could go 8-3, and then make a NC run.

9-2 and deep playoff run. We'll either get back to Frisco or lose a heartbreaker in the semis in Harrisonburg. I'm worried about injuries and our O-line this year.

Technically. There is a way to lose 3 games, not win them. However I respect your opinion. We have exposure. I believe we have a chance to be very special again but injuries and just honestly poor play makes 11-1 become 8-3. Does a loss by 1 point to Villanova and Richmond, a loss to ECU does that make us not NC material. 11-1 is just as feasible as what I proposed. I'm happy to be proven wrong, it doesn't change the fact I desire for us to win every game, but no chance to loose three isn't a fair statement.

You COULD win the lottery IF you pick the winning numbers.

Clearly I'm looking at the season through a purple haze.

That being said, it would take a train wreck, given the combination of these players and this coaching staff, to lose 3 games during the regular season. We did beat a damn good Villanova team last year on the road without Schor for most of that game. Team was good enough to win with its Johnson hanging out......

No losses and another National Championship. There will be no roller coaster season either with close scores, we will be on top of our game every week. I'm feeling it.

9-2 regular season...I think ECU and one of UR, W&M, or UD beats us.

As coach houston says, his teams are made to win in November. If we make the playoffs as a seed, I would be surprised if we don't make the Championship.

I went with Nova... slight mid-season lull is the only weakness that is even possible

i'll go with 15-0. if you know me, that's saying a lot as i'm usually on the conservative side of these predictions. sure, i could see 9-2 or even 8-3. but i think we're better than every team we play. biggest keys are Schor staying healthy and the OL playing well together. if those two things happen, i don't see how we lose.

Now that we've seen them play against an FBS school (granted, it didn't tell us THAT much), anyone want to change their answer?

I've thought all along undefeated, and that certainly hasn't changed. I think after last week, the tougher prediction will be average PF vs PA. I'm thinking an average of 45+ PF and about 10 PA. The PA will really depend on how long we're playing our 2nd and 3rd string defense. Right now Massey is giving us an average of about 40 PF and 14 PA in their predictions (https://www.masseyratings.com/team.php?t...s=295489). With all but a few of these games, Houston could pretty much pick whatever score he wants.

We could also do predictions on number of shutouts.

I'd say baring some unforeseen injuries or freak events (knock on wood), we should be undefeated regular season. This team and our coaches are just that good, though we almost slipped up against UNH last season (first game at UNH). For sure every team will be gunning for us, and we should expect new/trick plays reserved just for our game. Houston seems good at not overlooking anyone and keeping the team focused and motivated though.

The only team I see right now as a potential roadblock to another NC is NDSU. That game was heavily contested. I think they are very deserving of their #2 ranking, and are curently higher in the Sagarin ranking than we are. If anyone spoils the party, it will most likely be the Bison.

Prediction is 15-0 with about 95% confidence.

LOL, no worries, not trying to compete for a prize. My prediction would have been the same previously, but with a lower confidence than after watching ECU get dismantled. Expected us to win that one, but not quite so decisively.

Also, FWIW and as stated previously, I think odds are close to 75% Frisco will be JMU vs the Bison. Still a bit concerned they will buy up the lions share of the seats this year. I don't see the committee putting us on the same side of the bracket with them.

Semifinal appearance means a loss or I wouldn't have said that. I would've said champion or runner-up if we progressed further, at minimum.

I will now change my answer to 10-1 but still minimum semifinal appearance. It really depends on if we face NDSU before Frisco. That game is a toss-up, even at home.
I thought ECU could've been one of the losses, so obviously 9-2 isn't in the cards anymore. I think we could get tripped up in one CAA game. If we make it past UR, obviously, undefeated regular season.

1 or 2. Shutouts are hard because any team can usually get within FG range at least once and once we have our back ups in the game, they inevitably give up more trash yardage and scores.

NDSU will lose a minimum of one game this regular season. Their conference is too strong. They'd probably need to drop at least 2 though to not be a top 2 seed.
