A lot of people go to ECU to become teachers. ECU began as "ECTC - East Carolina Teacher's College". Teachers in NC are woefully underpaid. In fact, ECU graduates more than 20% of North Carolina's teachers. That is one reason for the post-graduation salary.

New teachers are not woefully underpaid anymore. My mother graduated in 57 and taught for 31 years when they were woefully underpaid. She mentioned the other day that they are doing fine now considering the lower cost of living in NC compared to many other places. That being said....Ill put the quality of teacher education at ECU on par with ANY university in the nation. We started out as a "normal school" and everything that goes on at ECU honors that tradition. That includes all the way to the medical school. Other schools focus on research. ECU focuses on preparing students for the work place. Both have a valid and legitimate mission and function.

I have no idea what the mission of JMU is but Im sure the serve it well in Virginia and respect the institution.

The instant I see graduates of ANY university start trying to compare schools and making judgements about them I know it comes from ignorance and I ignore it.

I have to say Ive been quite surprised by the EZU threads on this board. It is something I would have expected from UNC or NCSU fans..not JMU. Im sure that these posters do not represent the vast majority of JMU graduates that would not engage in such disrespectful nonsense.

Some of their fans in Section 19 acted like they were the #1 team in the country early on. By halftime, they acted as if they were hanging with Alabama. By middle of the 4th quarter, they thought JMU fans were rude and unruly for cheering our team on for beating a 3-9 squad, even telling us we were acting like we were beating Bama.

I hate fan fights. I'd rather just cheer loudly for my team or boo the ref or whatever. But some people just can't help but try to pick fights especially when their jimmies are rustled.
