Southern Miss announces fourth mid-season football signee
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Football Coach Jeff Bower has announced the signing of Shadler Manning, a 6-2, 250-pound defensive lineman from Copiah Lincoln Community College in Wesson, Miss., to a letter of intent and grant-in-aid.
Originally enrolled at Southern Miss in January 2003 ... Redshirted for the 2003 season before transferring to Copiah-Lincoln Community College for the 2004 season ... Sustained a broken bone in his foot in the first game of the season and sat out most of the season only seeing time in the final four games of the season ... Started the final three games ... Finished with 44 tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks, one fumble recovery and one pass breakup ... Prep: Played for Coach Mitch Downy at Benton High School... Two-year letterwinner and two-year starter ... 77 tackles, 10 sacks, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery as a defensive end ... Seven catches for 65 yards and scored two touchdowns as a tight end ... Selected to all-state team by the Division 3A coaches ... All-Shreveport/Bossier by the Shreveport Times ... Two-time all-district and two-time All-Parish ... No. 22 defensive lineman in the state and 117th overall in the nation by Zem’s Gems … Helped his team to the first round of the playoffs his senior year ... Second round of the playoffs and a 9-3 record junior year.
This marks the fourth mid-year signee by the Southern Miss football program, Josh Barnes, a 5-11, 190-pound wide receiver from Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, Miss.; Jermone Lyons, a 6-2, 228-pound linebacker from Itawamba Community College in Fulton, Miss.; and Lavance Richmond, a 5-11, 190-pound defensive back/wide receiver also from Pearl River Community College.
