ECU is a natural grass field that drains well. That said, it rained a lot yesterday.

That is why I pay little attention to weather forecasters. I think there was 5 minutes of a slight drizzle between noon and 10pm tonight. Turned out to be great weather for college football.

RE: ECU game weather
We got very lucky. About 20 minutes before kickoff watching the radar on my phone, there were 2 very strong cells just to the east and west of the stadium. They both passed through with only about 30 seconds of big drops coming down. If either of those cells had come straight over the stadium, we potentially could have had a game delay due to lightning strikes and definitely would have had strong rain. Glad we got lucky. There were definitely storms in the area at kickoff. After a few minutes into the game, the weather was marvelous. Could have been much worse.

Looking forward still far too distant to have any faith, high temps on Saturday in the Burg around 70 with sunny skies and game time temp around 68. I hope that sticks. Can't ask for much better weather than that.

RE: JMU FB game weather
Change the original thread title to "JMU FB game weather" to keep weekly forecasts and discussion into one thread, FWIW.

Looks like Irma will be no threat for Saturday's home opener vs ETSU. Lots of uncertainty with this powerful storm of course, but they have it pinned for just below Miami as a Cat 4 early Sunday morning. The Dolphins-Bucs NFL game certainly is in danger of being rescheduled. Lots of models have it take a due north track though so much of the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic could be affected next week.

For now, the forecast looks absolutely picture perfect for early September this upcoming Saturday. Woohoo! 04-rock

If this forecast holds up, I don't think we could ask for a nicer day in Harrisonburg for a football game.

RE: JMU FB game weather
Side note, just announced...

...this weekend's scheduled Miami Hurricanes (npi) game at Arkansas State has been canceled. They won't reschedule it this year and there is no contractual requirement for Miami to have to reschedule it in the future per reports. This is due to concerns about Miami's ability to get back to Miami as Irma is potentially going to devastate that area starting this weekend.

edit note: also non-JMU news, the NFL has postponed the Bucs-Fish game this upcoming weekend and has rescheduled it for Week 11 when both teams were originally scheduled to be on bye week. So, if you have Mike Evans or Jay Ajayi on your fantasy team, make sure you adjust this week.

Irma make works it way up the eastern seaboard. Meanwhile (eventual) Hurricane Jose is right behind it, heading right for NC.

Latest models (fortunately if it works out this way) show Jose staying north of most of the Caribbean and then venturing out into the Atlantic not threatening the U.S. Let's hope it stays that way.

What model are you looking at? NOAA shows that it has started to curve more eastward but it is still far from guaranteed to miss NC and VA. If it's current path were to remain straight (which I know probably isn't likely) it'll head right to the OBX. It still kind of looks "too early to call".
Meanwhile Irma looks like it may hit VA by Wed/Thur next week as at least a Category 1 storm by that point. It appears to be heading more towards the western half of VA than the eastern half.

It appears that Harrisonburg is now just on the outskirt of the storm's cone if it were to progress further north. It is heading more for WV and eastern KY.

NOAA's model is also now showing Jose moving back out to see. Thank goodness.
