Think back on them - Gary Cooper, Danny Davis, Brian Rowsom, Matt Fish, Vlad Kuljanin(sp?), Craig Callahan, Devontae Cacock - all started slow but came on to do very well for us. At our level it takes at least one year sometimes more for a big to develop. If he was capable of dominating as a freshman he'd most likely be at a bigger program.

All very true. I go back far enough to remember Rowsom and even Danny Davis as a freshman. Rowsom was a unique situation in that he grew a few inches after coming to UNCW and it had a big impact on his development. Davis barely played as a freshman on an experienced team, but as I recall we had an exhibition game against Athletes in Action in the latter part of the season where he got some PT and showed significant potential.

At any rate, I would not be surprised at all to see Elmore develop into a big contributor this season.

Cacock was better than Gettys when he was a Freshman. It was obvious to anyone with eyes. I could never understand why Keatts was playing Gettys in front of him and had Ogbodo on the bench. Also, although he's 6'9" I don't see Elmore as a "big man". His game is outside for the most part although he has an inside game. If it weren't for our four guard lineup last year, Elmore could have been a stretch 4 and I know he would have knocked down shots with a decent amount of PT. He can flat out shoot. The problem is we need a true center to compliment Elmore, and we really don't have one(unless the new guy is good), because Elmore is going to be shooting outside and not rebounding inside.

Things can change. Elmore is bigger now at 250 lbs and McGrath is the coach now.

RE: Surprises with the lineup.
Almost forgot about Gettys. Just out of curiosity I looked at his stats with Rutgers in his final year of eligibility. Not bad at all. He started all 33 games on Rutgers' schedule, averaged 22.0 minutes, 7.7 points, 5.2 boards, had 26 blocks, and had good percentages (.544 from the field, .667 from the line). Rutgers went 15-18 on the season but only 3-15 in Big 10 play.

Ahem. Elmore is closer to 215 lbs. than 250 lbs. Not sure where you got your info. Don't forget, Cacock is 255 lbs. and those two aren't in the same ball park size wise.

Why are you gonna out him like that. Let the misinformation flow. Soon enough all the dweebs from around the league will come here hunting for information...

Elmore is 7'2" and ONLY has an inside game. Better just clog the paint.

Elmore is listed at 250 lbs on the roster so that's where I got the information from. That's usually a great place to double check things before calling someone out for their facts being wrong.

That's right. I don't just post #'s on a message board that are out of the blue. And, I'm not mad...just setting the record straight about Matt's new weight or his "posted" weight. He did look bigger.

The question is how big, and type of big?

RE: Surprises with the lineup.
I know more than what's put on the UNCW sports website. Also, I didn't realize the roster had been published, which is why I asked where it came from. I'm telling you, he ain't anywhere near 250lbs. He slimmed down from even the 235lbs. he was at when he came in as a Freshman at UNCW.

And the reason it matters is that he won't have the bulk to play the 5.

Two impressions from those pics: Ty Taylor is a ball of muscle. Kid is solid, and Jackie Manual looks like he can still play.

I think that pic is mislabeled as Ty Taylor...it's Jeantal Cylla. He'll be available next year.

I hope I'm wrong but I don't expect much from Elmore this year. Cacok's freshman year I felt like the potential was there. I haven't seen it with Elmore yet.

Thanks for the catch and correction. Good thing Cylla will have another year to focus on strength and conditioning.

I hope you're wrong too, but with the lack of court time last year as well as development, you may be right. If the coaches build his confidence he could be on fire.
