RE: BREAKING NEWS: Dr Sander retires...Scott Carter takes over
They also offer deals throughout the year for families and other groups. For football these are the promos -

Citadel game - YOUTH DAY: Children 12 and under FREE with a paying adult.
Mercer game - FAMILY WEEKEND: Discounts available for members of ETSU Parents' Association
Wofford game - FACULTY/STAFF DAY: Up to four 1/2 price tickets for ETSU Faculty/Staff members.
VMI game - HEROES' DAY: One FREE ticket for all veterans, active military, police, firefighters, doctors, nurses, and EMT's

These are ways of reaching out to those that aren't hardcore fans and tempting them. I'm also going to bet that they continue with the berm seats at $10 each. Yes, more than the $20 days for a family of 4, but not much more than a trip to the movies or dinner out for a family of 4. I could see deep discounts if the season tickets and other single game tickets weren't selling, but we've seen that isn't really happening. Sure - don't start price gouging now, but there's no reason to go less on them if they can get them.

And let's be honest, what other successful NCAA Division 1 football or basketball team sells tickets lower than what ours are now?

RE: BREAKING NEWS: Dr Sander retires...Scott Carter takes over
Well, I looked up a few for basketball:
Gonzaga you can't buy ANY tickets because they have sold out their entire place with season tickets.
Wichita State is in the thousands for season tickets
UTC is $150 season tickets.
Belmont appears to be $165 with substantial discounts for alumni. In fact, 1st year alum at Belmont can get a season ticket for $25 per seat, followed by $50/ticket for 2nd year alum and half off tickets for 3-10 year alums.
Furman is $180 for lower level and $110 for upper level.
Mercer is $150 season tickets
*I couldn't find info on the required donation levels for each of these tickets, which I am sure there is one.* Including that donation, we are probably market rate or $25-50/seat or so above our peer institutions. All I ever said was to not raise the prices higher than they currently are.

And I am not saying that we should have the $20 family pack, but that isn't much more of a discount than the current $7.50 price for the upper baselines. I do like Belmont's idea ALOT, though I would advocate for higher prices than that for alum.

Give recent alum and families a discount on those upper baseline tickets that we appear to have sold less than 50 season tickets for, and we have a full house every night.

Prices are reasonable across the board. $7.50 for a basketball ticket is a mere $2.50 more than a high school game. $100 for a football season ticket is crazy cheap.

RE: BREAKING NEWS: Dr Sander retires...Scott Carter takes over
Furman, Belmont don't draw flies and UTC does not have fifty percent of their arena filled for games as attendance has continued to drop.

Citadel fooball has 11,000 seats, 3,500 more than ETSU. ETSU has approx. 570 mid field seats ( 40yd - 40yd ). Citadel has approx 5000 mid field seats ( 25yd - 25yd ). There is a added fee for mid field seating and preferred parking. Cidadel also offers no general admission seats for many of their games. They also charge more for opening games, SoCon games and homecoming. All seats for many games are reserved even the end zone seats. Price for end zone seats $15 - $35.

Cidadel has demolished old east side and is building a multi purpose housing and 3,500 mid field seats.

When you compare ETSU pricing to other institutions, it's like comparing apples to oranges, you can't just look at price of ticket, you have to compare the total price ( donation, parking, seat selection, certain game prices, etc).

RE: BREAKING NEWS: Dr Sander retires...Scott Carter takes over
Buc76, I agree that it is almost impossible (given the limited time I am going to take to research it) to compare one school to another. I imagine the athletic department has done this research.

We don't disagree that much here. I simply think we should do everything we can do fill the place up instead of having lots of empty seats at the upper baselines, and I think some lower priced options could be a way to do that. And since we agree that prices don't ever go down, I am hesitant to accept price increases during the good years, because we won't always be good and attendance will drop during the bad years with the higher prices. And my point was that my family has a certain budget for ETSU athletics, and that isn't going to increase regardless of whether ETSU ticket prices increase. Instead, it is going to cause me to attend the sports I am most passionate about (basketball) and watch the others (baseball and football) for free on ESPN3. I imagine other families are likely similar.

Now I hope we can get this thread back to supporting Dr. Sander and Scott Carter in their new roles. I am willing to give Carter my total support unless he does something to lose it.

"I am hesitate to accept price increases during the good years". Oh, you think it would be better to raise them during bad years? That makes no sense.
When would you raise prices or other fees, never?

Why do you think ETSU basketball wil have down years? Plenty of teams have successfull seasons for decades. This administration will not accept mediocrity like previous ones.

If you have the same budget year after year, you and your family will be cutting back on everything. Surely you don't believe that cost of running any business or household remains static. If you do believe that and can do that, I have a business that you can manage for me and I'll retire to the islands.

There are hundreds of parking spaces for free.

What's their next excuse for not coming. To far to walk?

Not a joke. And yes, too far to walk. They're somewhat up in years (even moreso than myself). One couple is in their early 70s. The other I'm just guessing, but I'd say upper 60s. Yes, there's plenty of free parking - down around the administration building, etc. They asked. I wasn't privy to that conversation, but it sounded very discouraging to them. And these people aren't what I'd call "poor" - they just can't stand the concept of gouging for parking. And I strongly agree. Further, I bet there's many more that feel the same way, but just aren't voicing their opinions on this forum.

Will the Bucshot routes be running on game days? Or other free shuttle from the far parking lots to closer? If not, the administration probably should investigate that as an option. Heck - I'd be glad to run a free shuttle for those unable to walk so far if that's their biggest difficulty with gameday and would get them to the games.

There is free and cheap parking both available. So it's not the "concept of gouging" you disagree with, its that you want the best parking for free. It doesn't even work like that at the bigger high schools.

The elephant in the room may be that there appears to be FAR to few handicapped parking spaces available near the stadium. A handicapped parking space in the Warf Pickle lot is not really of value for use as a handicapped space for the stadium.

I attend games with someone who is handicapped. We plan to pick them up at Kroger's, drop them off at the stadium, then go park ourselves. Does that really say ETSU values the handicapped/limited ability fan?

Of course it doesn't. Did you notice the amount of handicapped seating in the stadium?

We have an entire parking lot for handicap parking immediately next to the entrance of the stadium. And we have more handicap seating in the football stadium than most of us thought was needed. I don't see that as a legit critique of the football stadium at all.

RE: BREAKING NEWS: Dr Sander retires...Scott Carter takes over
I stopped by the stadium the Sunday after the race. There's a handicapped parking lot literally next to the entrance to the stadium. If you have a disabled person, I'd be willing to bet there's a process VERY SIMILAR to what Tennessee did when Scott was there to get a pass for the handicapped lot. Maybe instead of flying off the deep end, one could perhaps reach out to the ticket office, media relations, disability services, etc... and find out what the protocol is for that.
As for the handicapped seating, I would imagine as with any new facility, they are ADA compliant in terms of what they offer for accessibility.

To each his own, but the handicapped parking is far inadequate (in the interest of full disclosure, I am not handicapped at all).

That is not exactly correct, and I'm not off the deep end, I've raised the issue with senior administration and got the standard "we are ADA compliant response", not a "let us help your friend have good access to the games" response.

A handicapped license plate trumps any local processes.

Yes, they have complied with the letter of the law (i.e. ADA compliance). That doesn't meant that handicapped parking is adequate. When someone is handicapped and needs to park, they really could care less if there is ADA compliance at the facility.

Again in the interest of full disclosure, I am not handicapped nor is any member of my family.

ETSU does more than it should to accommodate handicapped individuals. End of story.

We could have had 400 seats without adding in all those handicap accessible places. I think we did way to much handicap accessible seats with the Football field and Freedom Hall.

Just curious - do you feel the number of spots are not sufficient, or is it the location?

I think if there are not sell outs, the number and the location are fine.

If there are sellouts relying on handicapped parking outside of the designated lot is not acceptable, I believe it would be hard to navigate from a handicapped parking space near Warf Pickle to the stadium using a cane.
