I know i know, preseason tournament exposure and the ncaa. . . But that doesn't make you a media darling lol, they cover those tournaments no matter who is playing.

Lot of reality coming for wsu, some good and some bad.
Foot, meet mouth.

Spouts a bunch of incorrect assumptions.
Yells that other group is out of touch with reality.

Maybe the AAC isn't so different from the Valley after all.

I swear everyone is copying fanhood lately.

Again i asked how many of your conference/regular season games were shown on espn/cbs. Not including preseason or post season tournaments since they show those games no matter what.

I looked it up. You had the Oklahoma game (at their place, you know with big xii contract), Both Illinois St games and the uni game at home. Hmmmm, four games. Only 3 from the valley.

Want to bet you get more than that in the aac? Off the top of my head, both cinci games, smu games, the uconn games, and probably the ucf games. So eight here, yeah seems like it will just be same old same old for you all and not a doubling of your exposure by making the jump.

Tulsa fan was talking smack about media attention. You questioned if ESPN even showed Valley games. ESPN showed 4 WSU Valley games. ESPN showed 0 Tulsa AAC games. Now which part did I lose you at so I can explain it again?

Yes, yes, you got on 3 of the valleys what 5 games?

Lol this is about the valley exposure vs the aac.

Tulsa was what 7th last year? How many valley games did evansville get on espn? Then go tell me how many cinci and smu got. Just a guess but its more than 3.

7th in the AAC is roughly equal to mvc champ, so at least you got that part right. 04-cheers

The real question is will wsu get on tv in 2019-2020 after going .500 in their new conference with their bestest team ever. 07-coffee3
You're really gonna need to up your game. WSU fans have been dealing with fact-deficient trolls for years.

None of it's going to matter in 10 years anyway. Both of our schools roller coaster up and down. I guarantee you there will be a period in the not too distant future where WSU is a dumpster fire and Tulsa is getting the national attention. We had the late 90's. You guys had the mid 2010's. The only time we've both been pretty decent together was the 80's.

I highly doubt we will ever be a dumpster fire again. Perhaps a period of mediocrity, but I can't imagine anybody that was alive during the 90's would EVER let us slide back into that abyss. Complacent coaching hires will not be the thing that brings us down. We were cocky after the 80's. We learned our lesson.

Powerhouse in the 60's, decent in the 70's, powerhouse in the 80's, garbage in the 90's, good to very good in the 00's, powerhouse in the 10's. We've put 17 years between us and total fail. We're gonna slip eventually, but it's not gonna happen while Marshall's at WSU. And if this conference stays intact until 2025, that's another factor that should allow us to -at worst- tread water, unless the athletic department ***** the bed in a historical way.

Wichita State had 4 Valley games on ESPN. I tried to drop a subtle hint so you would correct yourself but I guess I have to point out you not knowing how to count.

Illinois State, Northern Iowa, and Missouri State all had more ESPN conference games than Tulsa. Evansville had the same amount as Tulsa.

SMU had 6 including 2 on the flagship. I'm more excited to be on the flagship than having two extra games on TV.

I didnt look to hard but the source i used did not list missouri st. 6 is still better than 4 and 2 on the flagship is better than none.

My point remains wsu is going to see a growth in exposure. You will also help the AAC gain more flagship games instead of espn2.

Also i'm teasing, but only slightly. I have you all with four losses in conference, quite a change from what you are use to.

I see WSU's alumni association is planning a trip to the Tulsa-Navy game to root for Navy. I'd rather them root for us, but at least they're putting more butts in our seats!

The stupid thing is, it's not like Navy needs more fans in football. The push should have been the other way by the conference. It's not like a bunch of Shockers are showing up in Annapolis any time soon.

i don't understand the level of sarcasm for this. I invite the Shockers' fan to support our football in any manner they wanted. Beat the daylights out of C-USA v1.0 when the Catholic schools had open contempt for our gridiron side.

Besides, we're going to have a nice chunk of NCAA credits to add to our accounts via the Shockers' run in March.

I dont think this is conference thing.

I would say it is in large part due to navy and wsu's similar positions with the conference. Also they're the new kid on the block, they go back to what they know and what they know is we're a rival.

Uh... I know you guys are new to the whole media attention outside of March thing, but that's already what they tend to do.
Is this seriously a Tulsa fan talking smack to a WSU fan about media attention?

All the lolz.

Lol does espn even show valley games?

I know i know, preseason tournament exposure and the ncaa. . . But that doesn't make you a media darling lol, they cover those tournaments no matter who is playing.

Lot of reality coming for wsu, some good and some bad.

The only bad reality that could come from us joining the AAC would be our seeding remaining unchanged from the days in the Valley. I think the probability of that happening is small.

To answer your question about ESPN showing Valley games: Wichita State isn't the Valley, the Valley is Wichita State. Our brand superseded our conference by a wide margin. I suspect that will be the case again this year if we play to our preseason expectations. We should be a top 10 national program that just happens to be in the AAC. Yes, this conference is better than our previous one but not by such a wide margin as to affect the Shocker brand in any substantive way.

If the other brand names in this conference get their **** together, and a few others rise to the occasion, it may be a different story. But as it stands now, all the AAC is to us is a slightly better seed so we can make deeper runs and continue to push Shocker Nation towards its full potential.

Last season in the Valley:

ESPN - 1
ESPN2 - 7
ESPN3 - 3
ESPNU - 3
CBS Sports - 5
CBS - 3

22 games on CBS or ESPN networks. The remaining games were on Cox 2022 HD.

Media Darling does not only refer to television coverage which is in large part controlled by prearranged conference contracts, but print/electronic media. The Shockers are covered ad nauseam throughout the college basketball season. It's almost too much at times.

In closing: Valley teams enjoyed prime-time exposure BECAUSE they were playing us, not the other way around. Wichita State is a media darling and Koch Arena is an American college basketball treasure with few equals.

The bus trip to Tulsa for Tulsa/Navy is only $130. That includes transportation, tailgate party, tickets, meals, and beer. That's a cheap road trip.

I appreciate the option offense that Navy runs. we've seen that in the Big 8 and then the Big 12(-2), but those schools have mostly switched to more open offenses lately.

I may prefer Tulsa's style to Navy's.
