At this point, I'm just looking for entertainment in Southern Miss athletics. And that would be definitely entertaining to watch play out.

What's your beef with Lamar County?

Well, I hate all suburbs. Just don't like the Panera Bread, soccer mom, etc culture.

But as it relates specifically to Lamar County, I've never understood the appeal of living out there (aside from the schools, and plenty of Lamartians send their kids to private school). I also think there is an anti-Hattiesburg sentiment there, especially in this whole Bellevue incorporation deal. For those outside of Hattiesburg, it's basically people in Canebrake and Bent Creek that are scared out of their wits by Hattiesburg possibly annexing them so they want to start their own little town.

Never understood it either beagle.....My Dad grew up in Lamar County back when all of it was in the sticks, and when he left his 2 year "vacation" in WWII, he immediately moved to H'burg like thousands of rural folks.

Hattiesburg annexed for a hundred years (USM was actually annexed way back when) and no one complained until integration in 1972.

Now things are backasswards (and yes, even our daughter lives in OG!03-lmfao), folks flee the city for the beautiful confines of Lamar County!

IF IF IF H'burg and OG merged, H'burg would be Mississippi's second largest city and the most progressive....but it ain't gonna happen. Amazin' how the high schools are 'xactly the same as when I was growing up, either majority black or majority white.

Oh well...04-cheers

(Oh yeah, Jamie Collins.....We keep talkin' about how things are too politically correct, then denounce someone when they are not....I couldn't care less what he does {legally} if he believes he is right...and like ol' Davy Crockett once said, "Be sure you're right, then go ahead".

Folks are sending kids to Christian based schools for two principal reasons, Faith and education. I doubt you'll find many parents using their kid as test subjects for a failing school district.

I'm not advocating for parents to send their kids to HPSD schools (though I think there will be some improvement under Barker, cue the Loch Ness picture). And I totally understand the appeal of OG and Petal schools.

What I'm saying is that it just seems easier (IMO, at least) for people that work in the city and send their kids to school in the city to also live in the city. Shorter commute and most of the attractions are in the city as well.

Property taxes in unincorporated Lamar County are much lower than in Hattiesburg/Forrest County. Ditto car tags. That's one of the main reasons.

Not so my friend. But anyhows.......people can live where they want and send their kids to private school if they want.....its (at least for the next 15 minutes) still America!

What does this have to do with sports at USM?

Hattiesburg related. Feel like it's fair game.

Today's spoiled kids are tomorrow's college crowd. We're developing a strategic recruiting plan. Dang it man, keep up

I've paid in both situations in similar houses- formerly in Lamar County and now in Hattiesburg/Forrest County. Total property taxes in Lamar County are significantly lower if you don't have the Hattiesburg city millage added in.

Not my experience. Guess it has something to do with where you live in Lamar Co.
try living in Lamar and owning a business in Hattiesburg proper. You get hosed and you have to deal with getting your business re-evaluated every 5 minutes. Pay for schools in two counties and send yours to private school so you know they have the best chance at getting an education. Then deal with people wondering why you charge what you do.
Anyone know who's leading in the QB competition?

Residential property wasn't a threat to be annexed under Worm's friends' administration and likely won't be a target for a while for Toby. The commercial corridor is always a tax trough for any municipality and will be chased to Oloh and Columbia as long as businesses keep catering to the Soccer LaMartians.

Yep. They don't want your house site and have to service you, just your business so they can tax the s**t out of you for no service.
