The Last Time There Was a Total Eclipse of the U.S.
Was 1918. A lot of programs didn't field teams that year due to World War I.

However, from 1917 to 1919 Middle Tennessee's football team went a combined 11-0. Just sayin...

I don't know about "many" but there have been a few.

I think there was a slight omission in the stat.

While it's only been ~40 years since the last total eclipse to be viewable in the United States, I believe this was the first since 1918 to be viewable somewhere coast to coast.

There have been a few that grazed or crossed through a coastal state like Calif or Maine, but 1918 was the last "total" solar eclipse that was seen in its totality by more than a two-three states.
