We are riding the storm out here, as my in-laws live three hours north of where we live, and do not live on a barrier island like my family does. My home is three blocks from the beach. Thankfully for us, the storm appears to be staying south.
I have been activated to respond to six Hurricanes in the past five years. The only reason I am not activated for this one, is because my Commander told me to take care of my new born as opposed to stage at the armory with my Soldiers. Thus I complied. I have more experiences serving during Hurricanes, and other natural disasters and personally preparing for them, than I would ever wish upon anyone.
Point remains, many teams make this work. For example, my Alma Mater has adjusted two straight years to Hurricanes. Last year, we played a game against North Greenville, instead of at home. This week, we played at Presbyterian College, instead of at home, and the players are at a camp ground. Miami Central played a game in Vegas on Friday night. Numerous other teams adjusted.
Furthermore, none of the players are essential first responders, like some of the rest of us. Thus, it is logical to transport them to another location, where they can practice and then play.
Be careful who you call a douche, when you know nothing of the person, their service, or their current situation.
Your service while commendable does not distract from the fact that you just advocated for a team to forfeit because a hurricane is hitting them. Pretty sure that falls in douchey catagory.
Exactly. You, fanhood, initiated all this with your comments, especially on a fan board with a huge connection to the state of Florida. I have multiple family members who got stuck there, particularly my grandparents and uncle in Naples. To suggest people are using this hurricane to dodge football opponents shows a total lack of sensitivity regarding the serious situation at hand. And I take that personally.
Nice try. I didn't suggest they were using the Hurricane to dodge a football game. I am simply pointing out the obvious that there are ways to play, and provided multiple examples of how it can be done. All of which have been done, or are currently being executed. In this case, the game is six days from now, so there are even more options.
You chose insult people personally, ironically, to someone that is currently evacuated with his family, and literally gets activated every year, all while also needing to take care of his own house on a barrier island. Save your outrage for those that are easily manipulated by such BS. I show my sensitivity every year when I hop in one of our LMTVs and help our Citizens, or work in the EOC to coordinate efforts.
Get bent.
Ironic is you experiencing this natural disaster, and yet criticizing those who aren't making football game logistics the priority. I found your comments insensitive. Perhaps you should try to rephrase things next time as I wasn't the only one to read them in a negative manner.
Again, save your outrage for those that are easily manipulated. So outraged? Put your money where your mouth is, and become a volunteer fire fighter, volunteer police officer, or join the National Guard. Outside of doing something like that, you are just somebody that makes silly insults to someone he/she doesn't know, then feigns outrage, when called out.
