The guy can't catch an injury break. Didn't he break his leg two years ago?

That stinks. He could have helped with returns as well, he took a kickoff for 6 vs Towson his freshman years. He has not used a redshirt yet. Tough break.
The news out of camp has had a few body blows, we can take a couple more but hope the pace of them slows down.

Yeah, hadn't heard much news on who our primary punt returner would be but I thought it would be him and that's not an insignificant role. Look what Davis did to help us last year. He'll take a medical redshirt year so best of luck to him on getting healthy. I feel awful for the guy. I thought he was primed for a big year both at corner and also perhaps a returner. While we do have depth, you can never have too many guys who can cover. This was a big reason we blew the doors off a team like SHSU last year.

Was Tutt a likely starter or 2nd string? I believe he was 2nd last season?

He hurt it very early in camp. He told me "a week and a half ago". He was in the running to start as were a bunch of them. He is a good kid and seems to have "adjusted" to his latest raw deal.

Can we start crying about all these injuries like ndsu fans about that silly LB they lost last year?
Oh wait. Nah. Let's just go about our business being awesome again! Next man up. No excuses !

Real bummer for Charles and the team. It's inevitable to lose players during the course of a season, but 2 likely starters done for the season before the first game has been played is rough. Especially at the 63 scholarship level. Really wanted to have all our guns blazing for ECU. We were so fortunate last year with injuries compared to most seasons. I'm optimistic for "the next man up", but we need some good karma!

MH says that John Miller will be the primary punt returner with Amos as a backup.

UR lost 8 or 9 starters last year and still advanced in the playoffs. We have more depth then they do. I am confident we can have a good season with some injuries but winning another NC becomes less possible with each injury.

Agreed. But we've reached a point where the games that I most care about are our annual FBS game and everything beyond the 1st round of the playoffs. Once you reach the mountaintop, just making the playoffs isn't enough (for me). I think we have quality depth to handle our OOC cupcakes and most of our conference foes though, even with more injuries. Just hope they aren't season ending types.

I thought the likely starters at corner were Robinson (started all 11 games of last year's regular season before missing the playoffs due to injury) and Moreland. But I could be wrong though.
With sometimes 3 corners on the field at once, will see at least 4 play during the games. So the 2 deep corners now are Robinson, Moreland, Oliver, and ????
Quick look at roster showed 9 listed at corner. Left (if I didn't miss any)
-Sr Justin Bethea, suspended 1st 4 games.
-So Sidney Wellons, transfer from Morehead.
-3 true Fr.
Might be seeing a true Fr on the 2 deep at corner...

Yeah, I would have thought Moreland as well, and he might very well have won the job by end of camp anyway. I was a little surprised by an early Madia practice report saying Robinson and Tutt were running with the 1st team, Moreland and Oliver w/ the 2nd.
I just looked up Wellons (Justins younger brother). JMUSports bio says he has to sit out this year as a transfer. Guess the same transfer rules apply, even though Morehead is non scholarship football. Too bad for us if true.

With almost everybody running a spread attack these days I always look at 3 corners as starters. I thought we had 4 who were PROVEN to be of that caliber. Hopefully Robinson, Moreland, and Oliver can stay healthy. I haven't really seen any of the young guys play yet but hopefully they'll be ready if/when called upon.

Well that means of 9 listed corners on roster (unless I missed one)
-Tutt out season
-Wellons has to sit out season
-Bethea not available 1st 4 games
So it looks like Moreland, Robinson, Oliver, and 3 true Fr available for the 1st 4 games. I would imagine at least 2 of those true freshmen won't be red shirting and will be traveling to ECU...

They can still travel and redshirt as long as they don't play, right? Yeah, I'm sure at least 1 or 2 of them will be making the trip. No way we're going down there with 3 corners.

From Houston -
“We expect Wesley McCormick to be in the two-deep, travel and play at corner,” Houston said. “And I would think Taurus Carroll will be on the travel team. We’ll see whether he plays or not, but he’s had a solid camp.”

Splitting hairs here but it is his knee, ACL MCL. Anyway the mental anguish these kids go through when they first have the bad news is really tough. He seems to be doing well in that area now.
When I talked with him he was with his folks who are truly supportive.

Glad to hear he's in good spirits but still feel horrible for him. These guys work their asses off year round to stay in shape for ~15 days a year if they're lucky so to go down at this point and face a year of rehab just sucks.
