It was financial. They didn't want ANY money spent on football..... LOL

I've noticed a lot of articles not telling "why" things were like they were. I'm sure its on purpose. A tell all book would be very interesting and force some folks to ask more questions....... AB cuts eyes to someone anomalously reading right now. ;-)

Very few if any are willing to tell the rest of the story.

I have long understood the 'why' reporters won't ask the questions, but that doesn't mean they can print something as fact that is not true. I am no attorney, but I have always thought that the Carr Report, in particular, probably constitutes financial fraud against an entity which receives a boatload of federal dollars. I also always understood (unless I am wrong on this) that the original decision to drop the program was too big in terms of budget item size for Watts to make that decision on his own without formal Board approval. Printing anything otherwise is not accurate. Just venting . . .

Don't forget the up front consulting with that firm (from New Jersey I believe) to detail how it was going to be shut down & what everyone would be told. This was out there months in advance when they told us all along the decision had not been made.

Also, why would you shut it down after doubling your attendance?

History is littered with lies, misinformation, or simply what the authors want history to "say". The real story is very rarely told and when proffered is often derided as the ramblings of a malcontent. The truth is there for those that want to see it and is often changed by those powerful enough to hide their sins (and their shame)...

It is why I try and not give in to the narrative that attendance &/or finances were the reason.

And that the football program was probably not the only objective of the BOT with regard to the whole of UAB. That (unexpected) local financial support that led to the first new facility for UAB football may have also saved the whole school from being reabsorbed by the Tuscaloosa Mafioso Gang of Five.
