According to US News and World Report:

Tulane: 39
SMU: 56
Tulsa: 86
Houston: 194

Keep this up and you'll be repeating another year at Troll Academy.

Sorry, it's a commonly known fact among Tulsa fans that Houston is a glorified High School. "Cougar High"

Let's kick Tulsa out for ignorance.

Large Metropolitan Universities have a different mission than some small private school. There's more smart kids in the honors program at a Houston or Memphis than in your entire school.

They're just not smarter than our smart kids. Gotcha.

Obviously, you didn't major in math.

No. There's as many "smart" kids at both schools. Houston just lets in more students, cause it isn't a daycare for spoiled rich kids.

I said nothing of the population density of the smart students. I just joked that Tulsa students were smarter overall.

I'll be honest. I wouldn't know. I never met a Tulsa alumni. I guess we don't have many at Georgia Tech.

A school with 35K undergrad students sets a record with a 5K freshman class?

I am confuzzled. Seven year plan the norm at UH, or something?

Pretty much even though I did the seven year plan in six years myself.

You know what that tells me? Fallback school.

In the market of those that plan to spend $250k on undergrad, Tulsa is the same thing. No one is spending that kind of money on Tulsa, if they have the option of going to Vandy, Rice, or Tulane.

Yes. People attend school part-time.

No. We accepted more than 22%. Last 5 years, the average acceptance rate is 59%.

Research spending/revenues is how many academics view relevancy of the learning institution. In that context:

USF - $485M
Cincy - $436M
UCONN - $259M
Temple - $227M
UCF - $216
Tulane - $153M
Houston - $151M
WSU - $60M
Memphis - $47M
SMU - $29M
ECU - $27M
Tulsa - $25M

https://ncsesdata.nsf.gov/profiles/site?...ce&ds=herd

So congrats to Tulsa for coming in dead last in conference, in one of the nut and bolt academic metrics that actually matter.

Must be a bunch then. UH has a similar mission and profile to WSU (only UH is much larger, obviously), and we had a record freshman class of 3800 last fall. This at a school of 15K.

Transfers, part time students, and kids taking longer than 4 years are the difference.

An increase in applicants is something to be proud of. As much as you wanna knock Houston as a "fallback" option, there are countless fallback options across the US. Even if true, those kids still chose Houston as theirs. Enough said.

Wrong. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board keeps stats.

For 2016, the number of kids each school REJECTED who were accepted by and enrolled at another state public university:

Texas = 7,630
A&M = 5,347
Houston = 3,195
Texas Tech = 2,290
Texas St = 2,049
North Texas = 1,275
UTSA = 1,211
UTEP = 0

Clearly, Houston's getting a great applicant pool, and is the first choice of a lot of kids.

Are we a safety school to A&M or Texas? OK. But we don't take a back seat to any other public university in the state.

I would agree that UH is the 3rd best public school in Texas. Tech is a joke.

Lots of good private schools in Texas though. SMU, TCU, Baylor, Rice. I always give my UH friends a hard time, but its not a bad school.

Saying UCF and Memphis are better academic institutions than Tulsa or SMU is laughable.

Try putting those numbers up against the number of academic faculty for each school. They come out to about the same everywhere. Roughly 80-110K per faculty member.
