Rockets were playing without starting MH Zoe Birnbrich who was in a walking boot. It was also said that Freshman Chloe Kleespies is also hurt.

In the 2nd set they also lost starting setter Carly Townsend to what looked like a serious hand injury. That will be devastating for the the team, if she is out for an extended period of time.

Balbinot or whoever was doing the play-by-play made a mess of that call describing all kinds of possible horrific, strange and unusual injuries (like, "her wrist turned inside-out") in between statements that since he is not a doctor he wouldn't comment on what might have happened - uh huh. I find it painful to listen to him call those games.

Rockets take set 1 against VCU 25-15. They looked very sharp. Much better than the morning match against SE Louisiana.

Townsend is on the bench with her arm in a sling or cast.

Rockets looked like a completely different team (worse) the last 2 sets and lose to VCU 3-1. Which Rocket team will show up tomorrow against ND?

RE: UT Volleyball 2017
Rockets drop the 1st set to ND 25-19. That's something, considering ND was up 14-3 at one point. Rockets just made error after error, mostly on receiving serve. ND did not blow UT off the court at all. Out of 13 kills for ND, I would say about half were on dinks. Rockets receive better that they could easily have won that set.

ESPN3 is terrible for me tonight. Only saw about 1/2 the 1st set with all the buffering.

RE: UT Volleyball 2017
Rockets lose set 2 by the same score, 25-19. Although the score didn't show it, the Rockets played much better, and even had the lead for a bit, last 10-9 I think. Unfortunately, 5, yes 5, service errors doomed the Rockets. Passing, especially off the serve was still pretty poor too.

Interestingly, the Freshmen are leading the way in this match as Caleigh Barhorst has 9 kills and Emma Swope 6. Barhorst has many of hers from back row attacks. I have watched the Rockets for a number of years, and I don't think they have ever had a player who could make a back row attack before. That bodes well for the future.

The other frosh who isn't injured is Ryen Neal who has 5 digs and an ace. This was said to be a really highly regarded recruiting class, and that may well be true.

RE: UT Volleyball 2017
Missed most of set 3 due to ESPN3 buffering, but it was probably just as well as UT loses 25-17.

Disappointing, as ND did not really look like that powerful of a team. UT mostly beat themselves. Kills were even 37-37, but UT had 10 more attack errors, 5 more service errors and 3 more receiving errors. Need to clean that up before the MAC starts. Freshmen got a lot of valuable experience though.

Not a huge fan but, hey, they're Rockets so I try to get to at least one match a year.

Here's a link to a story about the Notre Dame match. Up next - to Marshall for matches against the Thundering Herd, Maryland and Virginia Tech

RE: UT Volleyball 2017
Well, this is a bit of a shocker, in the 1st game of the tourney at Marshall, UT takes set 1 from undefeated Maryland 25-22.

Rockets sprinted out to a 14-4 lead and then held on for the win. Sage Thomas with 7 kills.

Well, that escalated quickly. Maryland takes set 2 25-13.

After seeing the set 1 score, I was miffed that there was no video of the match. Now, not so much. Hope the Rockets come out strong after intermission.

Well, the Rockets took my advice and came out strong in set 3. After being tied 11-11, the Rockets go on an unbelievable 14-5 run to take set 3, 25-16.

RE: UT Volleyball 2017
Well, the Rockets kept it close, but lose set 5 15-12.

Maryland goes to 7-0, Rockets 2-5. Not really sure how good Maryland is, as their other wins have come against such powerhouses as Elon, Furman and Northeastern. But still, would have been nice for the Rockets to get a win over a BIG10 squad.

One note, from the box, Freshman Chloee Kleespies saw her 1st action of the season. So, UT took the terps to the edge while playing 4 freshmen who all saw a lot of time on the court. Still without Birnbrich and Townsend though. Not if/when either will be back this year.

Rockets dropped the first two sets to Marshall (lost 25-15 and 25-21) but took the next three to beat the Thundering Herd. Won sets 3 and 4 25-23 and set 5 was a marathon won by UT 26-24. Nice win. 02-13-banana

Rockets face West Virginia later today.

Young Rockets learning how to win. Freshmen played a big role according to the box, Barnhorst tied with Sage Thomas for most kills with 15, and had an ace on match point. Kleespies had 9 kills
