sickening. I have no connection to the Confederacy, but it pains me to see their monuments being torn down, especially as a Veteran.

Local TV is reporting that the police are analyzing the video (which there is a lot of) and will hold those responsible accountable. We'll see.

I also saw a report that the Durham Police stood by and let hit happen because it happened at a county building and it wasn't their jurisdiction. Sounds dumb to me... so I could mug somebody right there and the city police wouldn't intervene? Really?

It looks like the county sheriff's office is the one looking for the perps: http://www.wral.com/durham-sheriff-to-se.../16881777/

Not defending them in any way , but what did they try to tear down? Serious question, I didn't watch much news this weekend.

Why do you think the Nazis chose this? They don't give damn about a Robert E. Lee statue. They want it pulled down so somebody will get mad and join their side.

When those idiots in Durham pulled down a Confederate veteran's memorial...nobody cheered more than the Nazis.

If someone is so mad about the removal of a Confederate symbol from a prominent public space that they'd join with or support a racist, anti-Semitic movement responsible for the murders of millions....then that person is really unstable to begin with.

I know the feeling. I have a lot of pride in being a Southerner, but not a lot of pride in the actual Confederacy and the plantation class that led our region to ruin (topic for another thread). Despite this, I can't help but being bothered since I'm a direct descendent of confederate soldiers. Especially when I see monuments to the common, barefoot soldier being torn down.

No kidding. And yet the Nazis will still welcome the new recruit.

My gg-grandfather was a poor dirt farmer. The State of Arkansas conscripted him and marched him a couple hundred miles to a typhus epidemic where he died a horrible death and was buried in an unmarked grave without ever firing a glorious shot. Leaving a wife and two infants.

Now some smelly Che Guevara wannabes think his monument is "offending" the State of Arkansas and wanna stomp it to pieces while the police look on?

I don't agree with this. Eventually, the people will come to their senses and these symbols of hate will come to pass. Do not however take them down illegally

Rebels shouldn't get memorialized. Period. Confederates are NOT Americans, so in America they have no business having statues. Politicians should be taking them down en masse, it's long overdue. If they don't act, i'm sure the people will.

Who are you to define what is a symbol of hate and what is honoring your ancestors?

Some people think the Vietnam War Memorial is a symbol of hate.
