RE: 2018 Mens Hoops Recruiting
Deshon Parker just committed a little while ago to JMU on twitter. https://twitter.com/Deshon_Parker

Looks like the Dukes have their future PG as the first commit in the 2018 class. Per Verbal Commits had offers from Vermont, Miami of Ohio, Bowling Green and Presbyterian.

Hopefully more to follow- Kinsey, Frink, Sanders etc.

Out-damn-standing! Fill it up. We have 2 committed and 2 more to give, though if we wait out 1 or 2 until spring that is OK - especially in this age of graduate transfers and so forth.

Nice!

Thanks for the update once again, NJ!!!

Looks like they may prefer 4 year high school players to transfers. Lock in two more now. The classes are pretty balanced now and next year you'll have enough upper classmen and experience in the rotation.

Summers was lead recruiter on Parker and Johnson was lead recruiter on Urbach. Urbach is a good long distance shooter and plays for Team Takeover in DC so that's a good sign post Kontaxis leaving the staff.

Deshon Parker is recruiting Taevion Kinsey to join them in the 18 class on social media. Kinsey is another Ohio recruit and a more explosive wing player. If the Dukes can land him they just need a big this class (Alanzo Frink would be a good one) and things will have really lined up nicely in terms of their depth chart moving forward.

RE: 2018 Mens Hoops Recruiting
JMU target Taevion Kinsey recently won a dunk contest by dunking over a 6' 10" player. Not much of a fan of dunk contests but included the footage because I noticed that another JMU recruiting target Christian Guess was at the same event. Both players are from Ohio.

While it would be nice with the remaining scholarships to get a 3 and a 4 (Kinsey for example at 2 or Guess at 3 and then a 4 like Alanzo Frink) to go with the 1(Parker) and 2 (Urbach) thus far it wouldn't be awful to get two more athletic wings especially the way Rowe is planning to play. Both Kinsey and Guess fit that bill. Guess seems to have a game similar to Darius Banks- two way player, hard worker, good size and he's getting looks from bigger programs.

It's clear to me that this team should use at least one of the remaining two scholarships on a front court player, as they're losing Snowden, Smith and McLean. They seem to be set at the guard position next season with the two new verbals. They could use one scholarship this fall on a front court player and hold the other for an impact transfer. Frink would seem to be a good get for them this fall. We'll know soon in any event with the fall signing period starting next Wed.

Next year's roster:

1 - Mosley (6-3), Parker (6-2)
2 - Lewis (6-5), Urbach (6-4)
3 - Banks (6-5), Pinkard (6-4), Jones (6-7)
4 - Jacobs (6-8), Scissom (6-8)
5 - Phillips (6-9), Wilson (6-7), Schultz (6-11 walk-on)

Yeah I agree- I would really like to see them land Alanzo Frink for multiple reasons- looks like a player and it would be a nice recruiting win in NJ from a good program that the staff could build on.

I don't think JMU can bank on adding a big as a transfer or grad transfer though- those guys are in short supply and high demand. Cam Smith was a good get but as folks have discussed on this board he's limited because of a knee injury and I'm sure that's part of the reason why he was in play for JMU this off season.

BTW I think Pinkard is more of a 2 which opens up the 3 spot on the future depth chart for the 3rd or 4th 2018 recruit (either Kinsey or Guest).

NC PG Recruit Daivien Williamson committed to East Tennessee State yesterday. With the Parker commitment there likely wasn't a spot for him with JMU anyway.

I wouldn't get too caught up in how I placed players by numerical position...my main point was that the team has 6 guards and 5 forwards on scholarship for next season at this point. Seems that they need at least one more forward/center to balance out the roster. Also, with respect to my other point, I was suggesting an impact transfer as a 4-year transfer, not graduate transfer.

If you look at the VC site, I don't see Guess listed there for JMU. In one listing I saw of the top players in Ohio, he was the no. 5 player or so. Parker, by contrast, wasn't in the top 20 (was in best of the rest).

We agree that Frink would be a good addition (he's rated three stars).

JMU announced the Parker signing, but Urbach has not signed yet evidently. Tomorrow is the deadline...you have to wonder if he's going to sign now. I read good things about Urbach and had seen him make the first team at a recent DMV elite event.
