2018 Mens Hoops Recruiting
JMU made the final 6 for a PG prospect, Daivien Williamson. Verbal Commits lists him as 5'11" but other sites and more of to date profiles list him as 6'1". JMU offered him relatively later than others but still made his final 6 along with Georgia Southern, Coastal Carolina, Wofford, Radford, and Drexel. Bigger programs showed interest and UNCW was among the programs who offered but didn't make the final 6.

Here are some articles and write ups on Daivien. Sounds like he could be a replacement for Joey McLean going forward although McLean was lightly recruited compared with Williamson.

http://basketballsocietyonline.com/daivi...basketball

"Daivien Williamson, Team Winston, PG, 2018: The super quick point guard was a blur for the North Carolina team and helped his squad enjoy a deep run at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions. Williamson averaged 15.3 points a game and did a fine job of running his balanced squad. He’s a quality low-major target as we move into the July recruiting period. — Justin Young"

Daivien Williamson
High School: Winston Salem Prep
Travel Team: Team Winston

"Daivien is the next star in line for WSPA one of the most decorated programs in the entire state. Past alumni have found tremendous success at all levels of college hoops including this year's NCAA tournament. The Phoenix came up short on their state title hunt but it was of no fault of Williamson, the Junior lead his team in scoring and was named POY in his conference."

"He recently balled out at the NC Preps elite guards camp and was named best passer at the event. Team Winston will play a competitive schedule this travel season and the talented combo guard will be on full display. Williamson can score with the best when he’s on the young star is a tough matchup and defensively he’s usually strapped up on the opponent's top perimeter threat. Some solid programs are tracking him already the likes of Miami, Tulsa, and Unc Wilmington, are a few. Wake Forest is also watching the Tre 4 product closely as current Deac Greg Mcclinton was also a star at WSPA. As he continues to develop his lead guards skills the Junior will garner more and more hype. "

"Quality low-major target", well we've sunk a bit further. Not a knock on Daivien just a look at where our program stands. Not even enough respect to be a mid-major. ECU says our MBB is about equal to theirs, I wonder how well they'd accept being among the low-major teams.

Thanks for posting the info, NJDuke97, and for getting this thread going. Looking forward to seeing if Rowe can follow up a solid recruiting class with another one. Can't wait for the season to get here. Hopefully Daivien will be a Duke!!

Figured someone would pick up on that. I wouldn't read too much into that. He's pretty heavily recruited- had about a dozen D1 offers and some bigger schools have been tracking him. Based on that I think he would be a solid mid major get.

Thanks- with 2-3 scholarships ideally they bring in a big to replace Cam Smith and a Guard to replace McLean.

Yeah, this early in his HS career, aren't those "projections" based on current offers? He's going to get "bigger" offers. Hopefully we're able to land him.

We have one thing working for us for sure: All-Time GOAT HC Lou Rowe!

That's what the good mid-major recruiters do, find those guys that are "underrated" and "flying under the radar" Look at Briante Weber from VCU who was recruited by very few programs. Heck ODU didn't even offer. He ended being 12 steals short of the all time NCAA record. (He tore his ACL at the end of the regular season) I think Coach Rowe has that eye and connections to find those hidden gems.

Per Verbal Commits, Rowe offered a rising freshman Sunday and a rising junior today... https://verbalcommits.com/schools/james-madison

I hear you but I wouldn't categorize Williamson as being under the radar. Brady (in fairness without COA) often recruited under the radar. Rowe really hasn't at least in the 4 year category. Williamson has double digit D1 offers and high level interest. I think he's right in the cross hairs of a legit prospect who is being actively recruited.

Daivien Williamson has announced two official visits 9/22 at Drexel and 10/14 at JMU. JMU hosts Villanova on 10/14 in College Football. Should be a good time of year and a good setting to visit.

Thanks for the update. The team will be in full practice mode by then and early signing period isn't too terribly far after his JMU visit. Fingers crossed. Would be great to get a couple of guys signed in November - takes a lot of pressure and time off of the staff during the season.

And who knows... maybe we will be hosting College Game Day that day as well. 05-stirthepot

In fairness, the COA is a fairly new concept and for nearly the entire time Brady was at JMU he did not have to recruit against other schools offering COA. Now a huge percentage of schools offer the COA so in a lot of cases having this benefit allows you to remain competitive but not necessarily have an advantage.

Check out the point guard Nick Honor from Florida. JMU is in the mix.

Corey Evans‏ @coreyevans_10 · Sep 8

James Madison hosting three crucial visitors this weekend for officials including Nick Honor, Taevion Kinsey & Alanzo Frink

Bogey mentioned Honor before- 3 star PG from Florida.

Frink is a 6'8" PF from NJ (Roselle Catholic) (Umass Fordham Stony Brook and others have offered) It looks like he plays on the U17 Dominican national team as well. Nice to see JMU MBB recruiting Jersey Catholic schools again.

Rowe was walking some recruits around yesterday. He ran over to P lot and shook hands with a bunch of us, it was pretty cool.

RE: 2018 Mens Hoops Recruiting
JMU is hosting Christian Guess a 6"6" SF from Cleveland this weekend on an official visit. DePaul and a few MAC schools have offered. He has another official visit scheduled to Indiana State. Guess plays on the same AAU team as a Notre Dame commit (Robbie Carmody) and a Dayton commit (Dwayne Cohill). Dukes have been active in Ohio since Coach Summers joined. Just offered a 2019 prospect from Ohio today as well.
