Not CUSA, but when Elon was the "fighting Christians", i always felt bad yelling "Christians, you suck!" at the opposing team when we played them.

Why is the University of South Florida in West Florida? We will never know.

I thought West Florida was the Panhandle? Tampa is just on the Gulf Coast.

Well technically, they are in Central Florida. Regardless, they are certainly not in South Florida.

P.S. UCF (U of Central Florida) is more to the South of the USF.

At the time of their creation they were. Anything south of the Panhandle was considered South Florida. Florida was a Deep South state and places near the border might as well be in Alabama or Georgia.

In hinsight, a better name for the school would be Florida Gulf Coast or West Florida but that ship sailed in numerous ways.

Also, Orlando is farther north than Tampa.
