Ok, I stand corrected, but the perception in the building is that ODU does not give LT the same respect as other programs in the area. Offering the VA player of the year is kind of a no brainer, don't you think?
Who did we not offer from Lake Taylor that ended up in FBS?

Why should we give credence to the perception of 2 teachers at Lake Taylor High School? What can ODU do to prove to those 2 teachers that they recruit the kids (beside proof of offers to 2 recent kids?)

The 2018 class has Houchins, who has 1 offer from Morgan State. Smith, who doesn't have any offers yet that I know of, but Norfolk State is taking a look.
2017:
Ewell- we did not offer
Dorsey- No FBS offers
Bond- No FBS offers
Russell- No FBS offers
White- No FBS offers
2016:
Davis- Offered
Bruton- Offered
Palmer- No FBS offers

It seems those folks at LT may be viewing us as a peer to NSU, and don't understand why we aren't recruiting kids at that level. They just may need to be educated as to the level of player that ODU is recruiting.

And Bruton didnt even go P5, so its not like he was a stretch recruit. More like exactly the type of player we are going after. Maybe these teachers need to ask why the kids aren't going to ODU rather than why ODU isn't offering appropriately talented guys.

RE: The benefit of being in a great recruiting area
One thing I've learned in watching local football recruiting is that you have to see the difference between FBS and FCS. Someone earlier mentioned that we were beat out of 2 recruits by JMU and Elon. Those are FCS recruits. We are not recruiting FCS players. Big difference. One of the big changes from us moving up to FBS Football is that there were a ton more FCS recruits in this region then there are FBS recruits - difference between FBS and FCS. So we had a lot more local kids because there are a lot more local FCS recruits. Things change dramatically when the focus is FBS recruits. As mentioned, the top-tier talent being recruited by Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Michigan, Maryland, VT etc. are really out of our league at this point. We may snag one of those kids who has the desire to stay home but if it's Ohio State or us - we probably lose - right? We are looking for the G5 FBS recruits and bottom tier P5 recruits that we can offer playing time to - just like basketball. We don't lose recruits to JMU and Elon - we're not recruiting them. Our comp is ECU, CUSA schools, MAC schools, etc. Check the list for those kids - not as many. Big difference between FBS and FCS recruits. When you see that a kid chose Albany - we didn't lose him - we probably weren't recruiting him - he's an FCS recruit.
