Massey ratings say 38-28 JMU. Good enough for me.

this could get bad for ecu. Their defense was atrocious last year.

Scoring D - 36.1 ppg, 110th nationally
Total D - 452.8 ypg, 100th nationally
Rush D - 228.5 ypg, 111th nationally
Pass D - 224.3 ypg, 62nd nationally (their defensive strength)

Yeah I feel like you can only improve so much in a year... but then again, we did it. I don't think we were 100+ ranked nationally though.

The RB even if he was eligible would be 3 or 4 in depth chart. The DE would be the same. The WR is a True Freshman so he probably would of red shirted or at the least 3rd string. We are loaded at receiver.

Yes our defense was bad last year... but we microwaved the crap out of it this offseason.

We will have the following guys on the field this season that we didn't last year on D:

Gaelin Elmore - DE - Grad transfer from Minnesota. He was a big part of the Gopher D and he's having a great camp.

Tim Irvin - S - Started as a true freshman for Auburn. All-American out of HS. He sat out last season after transferring to ECU. He is likely the best player on D for ECU.

Korrin Wiggins - S - Grad transfer from Clemson. Started for the Tigers.

Tyree Owens - DE - JUCO transfer who previously committed to Texas A&M and WVU. Had offers from EVERYBODY including Alabama.

We had other transfers and JUCO guys in addition to these... so when you consider we are adding 4 highly touted, experienced guys at key positions where we sucked last year.... our D is going to look a lot different.

Also, we were in a 3-4 and did not have the personnel to execute it. We have switched to a 4-2-5, and the guys have bought in.

The Dukes will not have an easy day on O by any means if they're expecting to line up against the 2016 Pirate defense.

The strength of the 2017 Pirate D is going to be quite possibly the deepest and most talented secondary we have had maybe ever... and our defensive line. Linebacker depth is a concern... our starters are good, but there are a lot of young, green, untested kids behind them.
