Im not understanding the point to this game. They have a decent drive and instead of going for it on 4th down 21 pts they kick a fg. I get that they don't expect to win the game but they aren't even trying to compete. I can't even accept the playing to avoid injuries excuse because they are still playing the starters.

To me what is sad about this game is that we are so ill prepared for who we are playing. No, we can not beat this team, but we can take a professional approach. No doubt we need better players but we must give the players we have a chance to look their best. With this AD, I am not sure that it does any good to say that we need a transfusion in the FB program.

Total embarrassment.

I can understand being physically overmatched, but there is absolutely no excuse for the complete & total mental unpreparedness of this team. Blame lays squarely on the coaching staff. 11 penalties, and counting... Are you kidding me? The HC always aludes to the fact that he recruits leaders & team captains. WTF?

Total lack of offensive creativity. If anyone believes Treadwell is in line to be the next HC, you are insane. One yard of passing yardage. Are you kidding me? And Treadwell stated at halftime, that was the game plan.

I don't know what was worse, listening to the ESPN crew, or the KSU play-by-play. The non-stop gushing over Clemson by ESPN made it unwatchable. Then listening to the KSU announcers with their excuses (e.g. the weather in August didn't help...) added to the embarassment.

With the number of returners from last year, there was no excuse for this performance.

I guess I will stick with the golf teams. Thank goodness for Golfstat.com.

Kent State out-scored Akron today against a better team ... so there is hope.

Not even attempting to compete is the worst aspect of the game today. Literally not even trying. The kids deserve better. This coaching staff needs to read the book Extreme Ownership.

Just what are our announcers supposed to say? Be an idiot "fan" like you and tear everything and everyone to shreds? What good does that do? I listened to the game from start to finish and if you knew anything about sports or sports on the radio you'd actually get it. They weren't making excuses, just trying to spin things for the university in which they work.

These coaches and student-athletes don't need clowns like you. Go away.

At least Akron TRIED. Totally gutless performance from Kent's coaches.

RE: 2017 Football
1-11 is always likely. it really doesn't matter who the coach is because a really good one will be gone in one year anyway. We are the last place in Ohio that a good football player will come. Once in awhile we get lucky but that's all it is. It's sad since the rest of the athletic program is at least competitive if not above average but the money needed to turn football around is just not there.

Treadwell should have been gone two years ago - as noted earlier Miami had no tolerance for what he did to that program. To make a team totally one dimensional against a good defense is such an elementary sin in football that the guy doesn't belong in peewees! I thought he would get axed last year after the Toledo or BG games - don't understand the loyalty shown by Haynes - I hope PH is medically OK - but not sure your 1-11 is too far off the mark and not something you want after X years at the helm!

I suspect with a RB playing QB and the fact we are looking for walk on receivers and offensive linemen might have had something to do with it.

IDK. Holley played QB last year and threw enough passes to where he could have attempted a few. It was just a ridiculous game plan where IMO we didn't even try.

That book I referenced, written by Navy Seals, says there are no bad teams, only bad leaders. In this instance, I am down with that. Obviously the odds were stacked against us, but going in without a game plan to try to win and you get what we saw today. Very disappointing.

I love it!  Always appreciate response & critique, even though the name calling & mean-spiritedness was not necessary.  But hey, that's the world we live in today, where one can hide behind a screen and be boastful.
Listen, we are all fans of the Golden Flashes athletic programs, otherwise we would not be contributing to this site.  I guess I just have to be mindful that each of us has our own level of expectations & standards we expect from these programs.

Peace.

RE: 2017 Football
When there are teams that are similar to Kent or a bit worse that came out and tried this week it really takes away the excuses. Utah State led Wisconsin for a half, Purdue is leading Louisville, liberty is leading Baylor, YSU took Pitt to it. I wasn't expecting a win today but I thought some sort of effort would be shown. And the post game interview just reaffirms that this staff did everything in its power to look inept. After these past few years it should be hard for these guys to find another coaching job.

RE: 2017 Football
I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt for one week and assume this was a response to the crippling injuries we sustained at Penn State last year. So they approached this as keep the clock running, get out alive, and cash a check. Definitely not saying I like it, but to an extent I get it. Let's at least look at it on the bright side, we should be in the game next week and the opponent won't have game film of our real offense... Hopefully. And if that was our real offense then we're probably going to be unwatchable.

RE: 2017 Football
I love college FB so much and look forward to the season. But, this is depressing. If coaching is not attempting to get players to play in their best light, why coach? I hope the best for coach Haynes, but he is ultimately, after 4 years or is it 5, responsible for the preparation and personality of the team. I now hope that President Warren knows enough to tell the AD to clean it up or leave. BTW, our team is not without some talent. I do think that the players tried and did not quit. They were just restricted.

For anyone not paying attention, our opponent next week was a 45 point underdog yesterday and won the game outright. Yep, Howard beat UNLV (who is likely significantly better than us). Could be a LOOOOOOOOOOONG year.

RE: 2017 Football
It looks like Howard's QB is Cam Newton's younger brother (Caylin Newton). I predict next week both Newton and Holley lead their respective teams in rushing yards? Anywho, it should be fun to watch him at least. If we could pull out the win, at least it would be a somewhat quality win.

Well, it was embarrassing as all get out attending the game yesterday from the front row. All I heard behind me was "pass the ball, Kent" or "that's okay offense, we'll just get the ball back, they'll just run anyways." Here's to a long drive home...

I hope this was just strategy, and nothing more. And the real team will emerge soon.

Ha, that's just our luck. Schedule a team that was 2-9 last year then they do what we never can and find a stud freshman QB.
