USF reveals on campus stadium plans
Their lack of a campus stadium really limits their P5 appeal.

I don't think the OCS is nearly as big of a deal as having a correctly sized stadium that will be filled regularly regardless of team performance.

Good for them!

Having a correctly sized on campus stadium can only help USF grow their brand and fan base

Why? Yeah why would the lack of an OCS hurt them? There's all kinds of schools in the P5, who like USF don't have a stadium..well at least 1, Miami. Bawhahahaha.

Three comments:

- good for USF! Good luck on the new venture

- yeeesh! I hope they don't build that "big circle"/Roman Coliseum "thing" that was shown in that picture. If you're going to spend $200-250M on a nice, modern stadium in the 40k-50k range .... you really don't need to look much farther than the recently constructed stadiums at Baylor, Houston, and Colorado St. Please don't throw away money reinventing the wheel.

- Sorry, but even with that new stadium, it will not change your P5 fortunes. Your best, and I dare say only, bet, is to have a more or less exact repeat of what happened when you went from CUSA to Big East, except for the Big 12. They lose OU and/or Texas, and start re-stocking with AAC teams. That's almost the exact same situation, as AAC is now what the CUSA used to be ...

The picture was not an actual rendering but a placeholder photo only.

We're looking at stadiums like Minnesota's and Colorado State's as templates

I figure 35-40k is about right...but expandable. If you make seating capacity more restrictive commodity it actually is beneficial.

Good.

Colorado State's stadium would be perfect. Pretty much an ideal template for any high-end G5 looking to build a new stadium from scratch, IMO.

Just don't do what UCF did, with that really cheap design. Actually think they should go back to Camping World, with the upgrades it has. But guessing zero chance of that.

The target range from the feasibility study is 40-50k

Optimistic...but not too bad. Gotta keep winning to fill it.

I love seeing new stadiums. Good for USF.

Pack it full of suites. THAT generates revenue. Fan experience is important too. So, figure out a way to make wi-fi easily available - that would be a plus too.

UCF chose that design because they were building the OCS, a $65 million basketball arena, and an athletic village, all at once. Also, the city had given UCF a very short notice that they would have to move, because of pending Citrus Dump upgrades (that didn't end up happening till 5 years later). So, they had to make the choice of a cheaper/quicker design that could be upgraded, because of the parallel projects and short time period. Knowledge is power.....

I can see the logic of building one though. Like the link says, there is a better connection for both students and alumni with an OCS.

And this means the bro's can pre-game and walk to the stadium now.

RE: USF reveals on campus stadium plans
Good for USF, they have a lot of potential in the college football world. They sorta have the problem of UCF in how big they are yet they have the stigma of being a small directional school in the eyes of non-sports fans just because of the name and how their overall prestige pales in comparison to UF and FSU, but they look to be in a good position to broaden their appeal this year with Strong. And I hope the AAC doesn't play any weeknight games after that stadium opens because getting to the stadium (if it's in either proposed location) from I-275 N will be an absolute nightmare.

Absolutely. I wasn't advocating against an OCS. Just that it wouldn't boost USF's P5 chances.

It could help, indirectly, because P5 do want to see fan support in terms of in the stands and on TV, and by creating greater interest and excitement in the program, an OCS could help with that.

Time to build that Tampa Bay monorail.
