Right now, I think that's the main site. I'm not sure there's anywhere better.

Is there actually residential around Geasey Field? Who owns those townhouses on West Norris?

poor people

Why doesn't temple buy the land then and add dorms or something there? Students aren't going to care and most won't have cars to worry about the road being closed.

We own most of the land, and we have plenty of dorms, or places to put brand new dorms.

RE: Temple finally meets with stadium protestors
The NFL stadium would possibly work if we were able to draw more fans. But looking at the numbers from last year we need to look at things realistically. We are not going to get 70k or even 45k week in and out. There are lots of reasons for this which would include the AAC schedule (sorry Philly fans don't see our conference as big time), a preference for pro teams from local fans and a lack of strong support for Temple football in the past. So 35k fans is our best target.
Myself and others don't see an expensive day at an nfl stadium that 1/3 full as the long term answer.
My point is that Temple can take some blame for the situation that we are in. If we were a big time Penn State type of team, we would be taking a different approach. Some of our former coaches felt that Temple could become the Boise State of the east. That's a good goal for us.
As far as the protestors are concerned, the politicians in charge of approving the zoning, etc for the stadium are very afraid of protestors. They will not push back against the protestors. Their strategy will be to act as middle men and reach an agreement with at least most of the community groups. It will cost Temple some big money.
The local media is also very protestor friendly. So far Temple is looking like the bad guy. Many question whether Temple should even have sports teams.
I still think that Temple and the politicians will negotiate something with the community leaders. Money talks ...

03-lmfao most of the people protesting Temple's stadium probably live in public housing.

No they are private homes owned or rented. The stadium would require closure of one or two streets, disrupting traffic flow, would require major underground utility installation and re-routing, and there is no room for parking. No parking. Major disadvantage compared to USF which has much more acreage. The feasibility study will cover costs, parking, site infrastructure and modifications, code and permits, etc if it is done right. Not sure it is complete. There has been no release to the public as of yet, and I am not sure the board has seen it yet. Not sure there is overwhelming fan support at this point.

.

This story which came out today seems to disagree with you. Most people around Temple do NOT own their own homes.

http://planphilly.com/articles/2014/07/0...-in-nation

I didn't state which percentage were owned or rented.

The proximity is a problem. I am sure that game day traffic flow is an issue. You basically need a bulletproof plan nobody can question

If any of those town homes are rentals then a buyout is the best answer. But you need a development partner to handle that nasty business. Let them by property and redevelop it.

I think we mean those town homes across West Norris.

Reading this just makes my head hurt !, these " stadium stompers " need to be neutralized in some way, are there that many of them ?, the AAC needs this new stadium as much as the owls do, so I have access to a couple of BIG bull dozers that can clear out a few blocks a day, heck maybe there's oil in that dirt

RE: Temple finally meets with stadium protestors
I spotted my city council member a few months back and asked her about the stadium. She stated that Temple needs to negotiate.

I got the feeling that Temple is playing hardball. The school got to build dorms and a new library without any pushback from the politicians or the community.

In many ways this pushback is also a statement about how unimportant many people view Temple football in the city. Bball got some pushback but not at this level. There is an organized group fighting Temple on the football stadium. The mayor started out as firmly against the stadium but now he says that he is neutral. Most of city council has no opinion or would like to know what Temple is willing to give up to get the stadium
This would never happen to the Eagles or just about any other team in Philly.
But I am still holding out hope that Temple does negotiate and does manage to get some politicians on their side.
Philly is a tough place to build things like stadiums and casinos. Right now a casino planned for South Philly is also stalled. That project will get built but it will take lots of palm greasing.

Right? Neighborhood and liberal college activists at Temple act like the University moved in from another state and decided to plop their campus smack in the middle of North Philly. Temple has been there since 1884, long before the current surrounding communities.
Just like the folks who buy or rent a home next to an airport then complain its to loud. Good Grief

If your going to grease anyone grease the guy who owns the buildings across the street from the stadium. Buy the buildings then buffer the stadium with dorms and classrooms, or maintenance buildings. 07-coffee3 04-cheers

This. Buy up everything on all sides. Work with a developer and make sure you have a nice retail mix and make sure you have nice apartments with ameneties. Actual property owners will thank you.

Brian,

It will get done. I was on the alumni committee that was being consulted before building the Apollo of Temple (Liacouras Center). I was in a meeting with John Street, when he was a councilman, that would make your hair stand up. Temple paid for his education and what he wanted to get his vote was unreal. But when the right price is hit, the city and community will be onboard. Its the way things get done in Philly politics.
