This had NOTHING to do with Tyndall or teams not wanting to play USM bc they are scared of their RPI dropping. Come on people! This has to do with Sadler being pathetic and losing to SWAC schools by 20 points, so he has to drop down and play schools he feels he has a better chance to beat in order to save his job.

After listening to you guys, this is the first year under SADler that "we" are suppose to have some decent talent. I would imagine (even after Saddys terrible track record), that he should be able to beat Rust, Blue Mountain, the SWAC schools and maybe a few others. I'm pulling for him to win. However, if he fouls this up and loses to some of those schools, I hope you people will finally stop defending him. Heck, there were people that stuck up for EJ through 8-9 games - IDIOTS! Then he's fired and you woulda thought his "defenders" were preaching how bad his hire was from the beginning. I have a feeling the same will happen with Sadler. Once he's let go / not retained, people will jump on the bandwagon with his suckage.

tell me boy genius, why would you want to schedule us h/h in hoops right now.....

please, old man genius, who said anything about a h/h? besides, is USM the only team in the country that wants some cupcake, warmup games? id imagine there is a team or two somewhere in America that wouldn't mind beating up on Sadler early in the season to get their team ready....other than Blue Mountain, Rust and the SWAC that is. But that's fine...we seem to always play some pretty crappy schools in basketball over the years (we would just usually beat them before the Sadler era) and we do play FSU and Michigan

But an away game at Alabama A&M?! Come on Sadler! Im just saying Sadler would like an easy a schedule as possible, in hopes of generating a better record for himself.....not bc he cant find another team to play. Think about it.

Then again, last year we went to OT or double OT vs them so it's not a guaranteed win. And he in all likelihood scheduled the Michigan and FSU games to pay for the trip this week in the Bahamas.

finally, someone else that "gets it".

We've typically played 3-4 non-D1 games since I've been following USM athletics (mid 2000s). This isn't really a new thing. Go look at some of Eustachy's schedules. That being said, I agree in that I'd rather do H/Hs with local (beatable) D1 schools like UNO, ULL, Samford, SELA, etc.

As for playing at AAMU, yeah, it's embarrassing. But from what I understand, this is a 2-1 deal so we don't have to pay them $$ for a single guarantee game in Hattiesburg.

Doesn't matter. Whole season comes down to 3-4 days in Frisco. Very, very tough to get an at-large bid in this league. MTSU won 30 games last year, beat Vandy and Ole Miss OOC, and got a #12 seed after running through the CUSA Tourney.

12 seed is actually a pretty favorable draw. A fairly easy path to Sweet Sixteen.

Yes, but he's 1-1 against William Carey. Plus, he only gave up 96 points to Tugaloo last year.

Hell, I get the 2-1 thing if that's what it took.. but .. REALLY?

This is probably the only NAIA game I actually don't mind being on the schedule. Again, one NAIA game vs. a nearby school I can live with.

@ Florida St

I guess my question is it Sadler getting these games scheduled or our Athletic Director?

Since he's been here, have we had a harder OOC schedule than playing at Michigan, at Florida State, MSU at a neutral site, and the defending winner of the Sun Belt's NCAA tournament bid? The crap teams are mega crap, but on the whole, which of Sadler's OOC schedules thus far were so much tougher that his statement is unreasonable?

I'll give you the good teams, Harbor, so I probably should have toned down my statement..

But note we did play @FSu last year.. we played Miss St on neutral courts last year... so those come out of the comparison.

So we swap @LSu for @Michigan. Does that make the schedule that much harder?
South Dakota, Youngstown State, No Colorado vs. SD State, Stephen Austin, Hawaii : Push?

Although I think USA should be one of those teams we play in Basketball every year.. Local school, D1.. So I didn't really include them in my thoughts.

I think it was just how many of the WTF teams are on the schedule (But I've probably bitched about that every season our schedules are posted). (we only had two last year.. Tugaloo and Union).

I would think there are a number of Southland, SunBelt, and other regional teams (from AL, TN, ARK, and LA) that would be happy to schedule games with Southern Miss... Troy, South Alabama, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, TN Chattanooga, East TN State, UT Martin, TN Tech, Ark State, Ark Little Rock, Central Ark, ULM, ULaLa, Tulane, McNeese, Southeastern LA, Nicholls St, Northwestern St, and UNO. If you expand into Kentucky, Texas and Florida, then you can double that number. South AL and ULaLa should be teams we play just about every year.

They might at USM, but at most schools, no they don't. That's why most schools have an AD and a few people in advisory roles.

This was though one of the big reasons Donnie Jones took another coaching position before the season was over at Marshall in 2010. Marshall got a new AD and took his scheduling away, in 3 years he scheduled 12 DII/NAIA games during the season. Since Donnie Boy has gone Marshall has played exactly 2 DII games in the regular season, both times we could not find a game.

But Mike Hamrick Marshall's AD with a few people that are around him does all the scheduling. Dan D'Antoni might have some input or suggestions on who he would like to play but he does not make the schedule.

And that's they way it should be.

Interesting. Feel like in the past our ops guy has always had a big role in scheduling. In baseball, our ops guy and hitting coach do most of the scheduling from what I understand.
