Bleacher Kicking us in Sensitive Areas
"Overall, the Sun Belt is showing that it is serious about football by pushing out poor fits like Idaho and New Mexico State and adding up-and-coming Coastal Carolina. The upper echelon of the league can play with anyone, but it is dragged down by the presence of teams like Texas State, Georgia State and Louisiana-Monroe. It hasn’t done enough (yet) to surpass the likes of the MAC or Conference USA."

RE: Bleacher Kicking us in Sensitive Areas
But - "Conference USA teams are capable of putting up points and pulling off an upset, but the league overall doesn’t have the punch of the MAC at the top of the league. FBS newcomers/returnees like UAB and Charlotte will likely drag down the power ranking along with UTEP and Rice. There are some interesting pieces, but overall this is essentially the former Sun Belt with a new name."

TxSt has been a little disappointing in my eyes so far, GaSt now has the shiny stadium, have a bowl game behind them and hopefully a coach that can win. As far as ULM, they talking about the same ULM that has beat Alabama and Arkansas??? Their budget is low, their facilities are behind the times, hopefully as the economy turns, ULM and the state of Louisiana can get their crap figured out and start seeing some improvements.
I currently like our conference line up, a lot. Time will tell if we can all carry our weight and move the conference toward in a big way.

I learned two things from reading that:
1. This guy doesn't watch football outside of the SEC
2. If ESPN told this guy to **** in a bucket and dump it on his head, he would do it in a heartbeat

RE: Bleacher Kicking us in Sensitive Areas
There is no difference right now in the MAC, CUSA and the Belt. Anyone that asserts anything different this is using limited data or living in the past. It is like somebody saying they are better or their program is better based on one game and ignoring the other 11 or 12 if you make a bowl and they are sitting at home with a losing record. I dislike thUGA with a passion but do I think in anyway shape or form Vandy is better and or has a better program for beating uga last year....no. From year to year based n the individual match ups we will have a losing record against the MAC or CUSA so what if those losses came from the bottom of the conference to their top of the conference what does that prove? Where the MAC, CUSA and Belt finish up in the rankings has just as much to do with timing and luck than actually being better. The BRtransplant guy was touting the CUSA record over the Belt not to long ago but completley ignores who were actually playing the games. IIRC when I looked at it was in fact the better CUSA teams playing the teams in the Belt that mostly finished at the bottom of the conference. Anyone thing the App team that lost to USM in 2014 the beginning of the year does not beat them by at least two scores at the end of the year?
Honestly it is the AAC MW and us. I think we can catch the MW IF CCU does not become the next FIU/FAU and GaSt finally has a competent coach. I have no doubt TXST will gets it act together as well. We will all fluctuate due to a myriad of reasons...like coaching changes.... but as long as when we fall we are not falling to the bottom ten of the FBS like our bottoms teams tend to do we will be a lot better off.

RE: Bleacher Kicking us in Sensitive Areas
So who's giving up Ga state for the bottom of CUSA? Doubtful anyone would be willing to give up on Texas state either. ULL is our giant killer on a shoe string budget and consistent wild card. We are a developing conference. There's no doubt that the SB has taken steps forward in a multitude of ways. I'm not so sure I disagree with the language that I believe was carefully chosen.
"The right steps have been taken".
"There are some interesting pieces, but CUSA is essentially the ""former"" Sun Belt with a new name."
Former means no longer exist and I for one couldn't be happier about it. This suggest to me that we're in a better position despite the blabber about who's stronger top to bottom.

I'm shocked they knew that most of the "new" C-USA schools was in the SBC. Outside of that I doubt they know much else.

If you don't use head to head OOC game results to gauge conferences, what do you use? I don't deny that there's a difference in playing one of a conferences top teams as opposed to one of its bottom dwellers, but OOC games are scheduled a few years in advance. You never know what kind of team you'll have yourself, let alone what kind you'll be facing whenever a particular OOC game is scheduled.
It always amazes me how fans of teams that get on a roll so easily forget years of having to struggle while rebuilding, but even mighty Bama has days ahead of it where its program will struggle. The difference is that everyone will KNOW that Bama will be back. If a G5 team struggles for a few years, everyone assumes they're finished and need to be kicked back to FCS level.
We get South Alabama at home this year, then we visit Mobile in 2018. These two matchups will be a couple that people will use ( justifiably or not) to judge the strength of our conferences. The two games won't PROVE anything, but they WILL affect peoples perception of our two conferences. It's just the way things are.

I wonder if we should use the same metric the NCAA uses for revenue allocation.
Do you get a bonus at work? Is it based upon some metric that dictates the amount. I assume you use that as an indication of how the company is doing.

It hard on players when the team qualifies for back to back bowl games and gets left out. When we were 7-5 and got left out for a 6-6 USA, that sucked. I get why it happened but no denying it killed all moral in San Marcos. The team went into a nosedive as Fran lost control and now we have burned the program to the ground and are trying to rebuild it.

For whatever reason, I see TxSt as that sleeping giant in the SBC that could get on a roll and make some noise in football. Not sure why I feel that way, I just do, it's one of those gut feeling things.

Thing is, fewer games are being played between the two leagues now. Outside of App's regular series with ODU and Charlotte, and a Texas State series with UTSA, we're not seeing teams play each other. That means the NCAA Has to use metrics based on performance against other G5 leagues and against P5's to base their results.
Last year we finished well ahead of you guys in the rankings, and used bowls wins over the MWC, AAC, and the MAC to pass the MAC in the end as well.
The thing that keeps you guys ahead of us in preseason media rankings is perception. A perception that has been around since CUSA contained Louisville, Memphis, and East Carolina.

Recruiting is going int eh right direction. The team is still very very young and will it will probably be a couple more years to see the results.
