Tailgate related: What food represents your team/school/area?
Hi all, Texas State fan here. I'm working on plans for the season's tailgates and like to have a theme and food menu based on opponent. What foods would you say represent your area?

As for Texas State, you couldn't go wrong with BBQ (brisket, ribs, sausage, chicken), chili (no beans), taco bar, kolaches, etc.

Chicken Bog is the local dish that's unique to lowcountry SC. It makes a really great tailgate meal. I like to cook the chicken the night before and save the broth so all you have to do pre-game is put it all in the pot w/ sausage and add/cook the rice...

We generally eat the meat of the represented mascot before each game. Thus, we become cannibals every time we face ULL and App State.

For those who will be coming to Mobile (or Troy) and have never had Conecuh Sausage (made in Evergreen, AL about an hour northeast of Mobile), you're welcome. Try to find it at a tailgate. Some members in surrounding states (maybe GS, GSU, ULM, and Louisiana) can probably find it at their grocery stores, but it isn't that widely distributed.

If you want to tailgate like a mountaineer, rather than focusing on food you need to focus on moonshine.

Nothing new or special but I'd say safe bet on fried chicken and/or catfish and BBQ

I'm a big fan of Brunswick stew. Just start cooking earlier LOL.

You guys know walking around Cajun Field on game day is a treat. What I like about it is the percentage of people who cook on site. You'll find anything from ribs and chicken and fresh sausage, to jambalaya, sauce piquant, gumbo, boudin, pastalaya and red beans and rice.

Conecuh sausage is very, very good. I'll smoke it a couple of hours then use it in a foil pack with green beans and new potatoes.

In Arkansas try Petit Jean Meats.

I know we'll hear crap from our Cajun bretheren, but our tailgates are similar in the type of food to theirs. Gumbo, jambalaya, pastalaya, boudin, sausage, chicken, shrimp, etc. We also have a chili cook off and a shrimp boil every year. Pretty good food in the Grove as well.

Lived in Arkansas for two years as a kid. My dad still raves about Petit Jean Bacon.

"The Coastal Empire" is everything from Jacksonville, FL to Charleston, SC. The OP asked what foods represent our area and Georgia Southern represents the Statesboro-Savannah area which is smack in the middle of the Coastal Empire. In fact, there are some businesses in Statesboro named "_______ of the Coastal Empire" and the Georgia Southern golf course hosts the Coastal Empire classic every spring.

04-cheers

In other words, anything freshly killed or harvested.
