So basically if you beat the teams you're supposed to beat you look bad, but if you lose to bad teams it's better because you're not at the top of the list? Brilliant. A study of bad losses would make more sense.

I think using the percentage of total wins that are bad wins would be a more accurate assessment of if you suck or not. Or at least if your scheduling is bad or not.

From a scheduling standpoint, maybe just your OOC wins. For example, in 2014 ECU won 4 conference games against teams with 3 or less wins.

On the other hand, looking at all opponents is using strength of schedule to weigh against your wins. Something like RPI or Sagarin.
