Boise State 9-2 was the G5 leader at #23 while Marshall at 11-0 was rated 24th.
And the Marshall ranking was a gift....

Well, Marshall did spank the MAC champion by 5 scores in the bowl game, but it was only the MAC champion...

It was hard to tell how good Marshall was based on their schedule BUT I noticed that that they weren't beating the weak teams on their schedule by 1 TD for the most part. Those games weren't close. And no one really talked about that as I recall.

I am now announcing that there's been a possible change to the G5 auto-bid structure discussed, with the sole determinant being the team closest to Oxford, Ohio. Just try and fight that logic.

Temple had 3L, and when in the MAC before joining the AAC -- although getting better along the way obviously -- never even won the MAC East (weaker division). And the year before this last one, (a good) Temple team was thumped by former MAC rival Toledo.

One can't say an AAC Champ should automatically get a BCS Bowl. Especially when the B12 is going to take a team or two in the not too distant future.

In the G5, you're going to have a conference who's consistently Good (the AAC). But that doesn't mean the champ should Automatically get a BCS Bowl. Some years, like this past one, showed that who happens to be champ isn't automatic of a BCS bowl bid.

I would say though, that good bowls but not BCS/NY6 level -- that are locked in to the power conferences, should open up more there, though.

I watched a lot of Boise State that year, and (though undoubtedly biased as a Marshall fan) I was and remain convinced that 2014 Marshall was an all around stronger football team than 2014 Boise. Marshall lost at the wrong time and were the recipient of a 'message being sent' in year 1 of the new CFP.

The only defense I can add it that 450 days prior to the season, our 2014 home schedule was set to have home games against Louisville, Houston, UCF, and ECU. Three left the league for the AAC, and one postponed their visit until 2016 as a result of joining the ACC and adding Notre Dame to their schedule. Realignment busted out 2014 schedule, so it really wasn't our fault that we ended up with what we had.

The Champion of the most difficult conference gauntlet should get that slot every time. That would create real competition That's really the only good way to gauge one resume versus another. A conference should be rewarded for their investments and achievements.
Theoretically, a Sunbelt team can get that spot if they get hot - and that's just absurd in its current condition. If you have one conference allocating more of their resources to one team versus the group, that shouldn't be rewarded either.
I agree with a recent quote by Baylor coach Matt Rhule. Temple should have gotten that slot last year, considering their own resume as well as the resumes within the conference.

Hahahaha...you are darn good at trolling. This would be a great idea until the AAC has a worse year than the MWC etc. Then I'm assuming the rules would need to be corrected again? And Baylor coach Matt Rhule? You still like him? Come on....I see you've been banned but I'm sure you can reply back to this with one of your other profiles. Let's have some fun!
