With Dawson, Granger, McLean, and Dunlap all senior defensive tackles I would think they would want Hendricks sticking with defense.

Don't think so, but they might as well give him a try, nothing to lose, has the size.

True that all of the above are graduating, but apparently the 2 new Juco DT's are as good or better than all 4. Labarbera is an immovable ox at the nose, and Kelly is really, really good at the 3 tech. May see McLean provide more depth outside, rather than inside.

Kelly has 3 years, and Labarbera 2.

Would be nice if we could have as much luck with Juco OL, as we've had recently with Juco DT's!

E'Tough that sounds like C (CSNbbs)NN Breaking News, EMU is very strong and very, very deep in the DL.

We were expected to be strong and are stronger than expected.

If defense wins championships, I'll settle for at least the MAC West and a trip to Ford Field. 02-13-banana

If I'm reading these posts correctly, our efforts to recruit OL has been and continues to be very problematic (yes, making mistakes on JUCOs isn't good), WHILE OTOH, turning up aces on the DL.

I know cup 'half full or half empty' but I'm just thankful for the DL recruits the last few years.

Most of us here remember when our DL couldn't stop anything.... We'd have among the worst defenses in FBS. We'd give up say 28 points to a very bad FCS team.

If we have a very good defense, we'll be in a lot of games - unlike years ago where teams would blow us out early - maybe 35 point at half time.

Remember Hendricks was originally on the offensive side then switched to defense last year, it would only be for one year. The Gardiner experiment worked out well.

With one or two exceptions - guys that had promise but couldn't get on the two-deep, or not happy with their reps/playing time. That's life, and not just football.
Barnes and Kilby are the only two we should miss.

We'd be better if they were still here.

Just wanted to add in this stat: we return 85% of our receiving total from last season. When you omit yards from TEs and RBs, it's even higher (of course, the loss of Kilby does still hurt).

Seconding Steve and others, let's hope we can get a manageable OL that let's Roback tear apart secondaries.

I'm not used to being 'Sunshine Steve' on our FB team (that's a tough act on a team with a rare winning record), but I'm starting to think with a rebuilt OL that we could be the big sleeper in the MAC this year.

We have the WR, RB, QB, DL, etc. We are going to be strong to very strong at a number of position groups. If QB and DL can win championships, we'll be okay.

Not a bad time to be an EMU FB fan.

Agreed. That's why I said we need a "manageable" OL. Even if they aren't quite as good as last year, they just need to give our talented RBs and QB-WRs the space/time to rack up the yards.

That's the question: will the OL at least do a *decent* job of establishing run and allowing Roback time?

Charlotte and Rutgers don't have amazing defensive lines. We'll probably know where we're at quickly.

Charlotte no, but Rutgers will have a DLine as good as any we face in the MAC.

Only the Illini's DL is worse than Rutgers' in the Big Ten.

The EMU defense was solid last year. Could be better than average this year. Possibly the best defense we've seen in many years. The D and the OL will determine how many wins EMU gets this year.

What's your point........they're still better than nearly every DLine in the MAC, including yours.

Ryan Grubb now gone was the JUCO guy and he didn't whiff too often consider the DL JUCOs, our JUCO WRs, Browning and the Tuttle TE who left due academics, Porter, and off course Jimmy L on the offensive line.

And yep there have been some losers Robinson DB, Bergstrom DB, Dervil and now Harris.

But overall the staff has done a good job with JUCOs recruiting wise.
