This should stir things up during this summer dead period.
I think there are two intangibles in the list rankings. What time frame are they looking at, and what is the impact scholastic-wise fro students.
If the time frame is less than 5 years history, I would disagree with the rankings. I would put Rice in top 30 for that time frame, but not in any way top 10. I would just allow Rice into the top 40 if we are talking 1 year. If the time frame goes back to 2000 or so, I would say top 15, but not top 10. Rice has lost too much of an edge during the last 5 years.
The blurb about the scholastic issue seems to take a big portion of the description of the program. If you include the scholastic issue I think ranking Rice baseball/scholastics as top 12 is a good bet, and might even be persuaded to their number 10 ranking.
But, you have to convince me that the blended rating of school/program is a valid blend. I am not sold on that. If we do that blending, the Stanford definitely needs a mention.
All jmo, of course

Illinois has academics. The Big 10 has worse baseball than CUSA. The Midwest can get cold even in March.

Whether or not you believe Rice should have made the list, do tell how Tulane and Illinois can possibly rank ahead of Rice as a baseball program-- using any criteria? And how are UVA and UNC nowhere on the list? Southern Cal at #2? When was this written-- 1985?

While it is a strange list and it isn't clear what methodology (if any) was used, it is better to be on the list somewhere then not on the list at all!

I guess. Oregon State, South Carolina, Florida State, TCU and Texas A&M are among the schools that probably want to completely ignore this list.
But when you see Tulane #9 and Illinois #7, it does make it hard to take this list seriously.
